Of all the nba players, they chose to steal the talents of Muggsy Bogues and Shawn Bradley. I have a hard time calling them MonSTARs. You could argue that Muggsy had some talent, but 99.9% of the scoring was dunking, I'm not sure what they were thinking.
So who gets their talents stolen this time? Since Lebron is probably casting, I say Wade, Bosh, Paul, Dellavadova (with the talent to lunge at the knees of opposing players) and Varejao.

As for the original, surely Muggsy Bogues and Shawn Bradley were chosen for their freakish size - small and large. Although Gheorghe Muresan (later seen in My Giant) had an inch on Bradley.

This rumor will never die. It will have to be direct to DVD/OnDemand because no one will put money into backing this. It will be a horrible flop.
And since Shawn Bradley was in the first one, Varejao is a shoe in. Luckily for the stars, that monster will get hurt 5 minutes into the game.

I didn't realize Blake already did a redub of Space Jam 1. That's probably how they got DeAndre back, they promised him the Charles Barkley role. I'm hoping they can get back the talent the Monstars already stole from Lance.

In a Q&A with fans on Twitter today, the NBA superstar did little to quell the speculation. Asked if he was “doing Space Jam 2,” James responded, “Maybe … Guess we’ll just have to wait and see. #LooneyToonsRock”

Justin Lin Circling 'Space Jam' Sequel Starring LeBron James (Exclusive)
10:39 AM PDT 5/2/2016 by Rebecca Ford
Justin Lin, Andrew Dodge and Alfredo Botello are ready to shoot some intergalactic hoops with LeBron James.
The Fast & Furious 6 and Star Trek Beyond helmer is co-writing with Dodge and Botello the Warner Bros.' sequel Space Jam 2. Lin is also eyeing to direct and produce via his Perfect Storm Entertainment, and sources say he will be thoroughly involved in the creative development of the project.
Rumors of a follow-up to the live action/animated 1996 hit have been brewing for years, and picked up again when James and his company SpringHill Entertainment signed a deal with Warner Bros. in July. The Cleveland Cavaliers NBA player, who recently appeared in Amy Schumer comedy Trainwreck, will star in Space Jam 2. He's repped by WME.
The first film, a live action/animation hybrid that earned $230.4 million worldwide, starred Michael Jordan and a collection of Looney Tunes cartoon characters who teamed up to play a game of ball against aliens threatening their freedom.
Lin helmed four of the Fast & Furious films, starting with 2006’s The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift through 2013’s Fast & Furious 6. He directed Star Trek Beyond, which is slated to hit theaters on July 22, 2016. His other credits include 2002’s Better Luck Tomorrow and episodes of True Detective and Scorpion. He’s repped by CAA, Cinetic Management and Sloss Eckhouse.
Lin is working with Dodge on a couple of projects, so it looks like the duo wants to continue that streak with Space Jam 2. They've teamed up on an untitled cop comedy, which Lin will produce through Perfect Storm Entertainment and Dodge will write.
Dodge also is writing a TV drama for HBO that Lin and Jeremy Renner are producing. He previously wrote 2013's Bad Words, which was directed by Jason Bateman, and penned the script for Paramount’s O' Lucky Day, which Adam Shankman will direct. He’s also adapting webseries Action Movie Kid for Fox 2000 and Temple Hill, and is repped by CAA and Grandview Management.
Botello previously wrote Hollywood Adventures and indie film Crickets.

I like the original but I'm still not terribly interested in this due to LeBron. He just doesn't seem as likable as Jordan in my opinion. It'd be cool if they get Jordan to make a cameo or something though.

Lebron was recently voted as the most hated athlete in all sports. I don't understand why would Hollywood think he's movie material since people don't like him. He's almost the Dane Cook of basketball in terms of appeal. And he will be hated even more if he leaves Cleveland this summer.

Rising director Terence Nance is in advanced negotiations to direct Lebron James in Warner Bros “Space Jam 2,” TheWrap has exclusively learned.
Nance is an executive producer on HBO’s late-night series “Random Acts of Flyness,” which premieres this weekend and has received an order for six half-hour episodes.
“Fast and Furious” director Justin Lin was previously in talks to direct. Andrew Dodge (“Bad Words”) wrote the script. Charlie Ebersol developed a previous iteration of the project and is expected to be involved in some kind of producing capacity, should the sequel move forward.
James signed a production deal with Warner Bros. and “Space Jam 2” is being developed with the new Los Angeles Laker forward in mind, though he’ll need to approve the script before officially signing on to star. Other basketball players are expected to cameo, though it’s currently unclear whether Bill Murray will return.
Michael Jordan starred with Murray in the original “Space Jam,” which grossed $230 million worldwide. The Chicago Bulls guard led a team of Looney Tunes characters, including Bugs Bunny, against a squad of giant aliens.
Nance is repped by UTA. He is an artist, musician and director from Dallas best known for his feature film “An Oversimplification of Her Beauty,” which premiered as part of the New Frontier section at the Sundance Film Festival in 2012. Nance has previously directed short films including “They Charge for the Sun,” “Swimming in Your Skin Again,” and “18 Black Girls / Boys Ages 1-18 Who Have Arrived at the Singularity and Are Thus Spiritual Machines.”

It's kind of amazing seeing the posts in this thread and how going back to Cleveland (and winning a title) really changed people's perceptions of Lebron; plus Durant is now evil.
On a side note, I was browsing Netflix or something the other day and Durant's 2012 movie Thunderstruck came up... geez what a big difference in perception.

Kind of a dick thing to say for a guy who just opened a new school in Akron, Ohio and paid for it with his own money to help kids from his community get an education and go to college.

re: Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021, D: Malcolm D. Lee, P: Coogler) -- S: LeBron James
In his first project since directing the record-breaking Black Panther, Ryan Coogler is teaming with LeBron James on the anticipated follow-up to the Michael Jordan-Bugs Bunny hit Space Jam, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Coogler will produce the Space Jam movie and Terence Nance – who created HBO’s Random Acts of Flyness and directed the experimental film The Oversimplification of Her Beauty – will direct. Production on the Warner Bros. film is tentatively slated for 2019, during the NBA offseason. It will be James’ first starring role after a successful turn as a supporting character in the 2015 Amy Schumer comedy Trainwreck.
Getting Coogler, whose films also include Creed and Fruitvale Station, is a coup. The director is among the industry’s most sought-after artists. Not only did Black Panther break ground as a superhero movie from a black perspective with a black cast, but it has set a number of box office benchmarks on its way to grossing $1.34 billion worldwide - including becoming the highest grossing film by a black director.
“I loved his vision” for Black Panther, James tells The Hollywood Reporter, noting that when he was a kid growing up in Akron, Ohio, there were no black superheroes. "So for Ryan to be able to bring that to kids, it’s amazing.”
Space Jam has been long-rumored, with various directors and writers attached to the project over the years, including at one point Justin Lin, the action auteur behind the Fast & Furious movies. The movement on the movie coincides with James' recent surge in Hollywood film and TV projects as a producer. Just last week, NBC and The CW announced separate shows in development with James' SpringHill Entertainment.
The subtext of a James-headlined Space Jam sequel is the raging GOAT debate between James (who still has years left in the NBA) and Jordan (who has six NBA championships), players with pronounced personality differences. Jordan was a global superstar and endorsement king when he made the original film in 1996. It pulled in about $250 million worldwide and is still the highest grossing basketball movie of all time. It was chock full of cameos from NBA players (and the Warner Bros. Looney Toons). So it’s safe to assume the new iteration will include a plethora of basketball’s biggest stars, especially given James’ stature in the league. However, its unclear if Jordan will be among those featured.
“The Space Jam collaboration is so much more than just me and the Looney Tunes getting together and doing this movie,” says James, “It's so much bigger. I'd just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don't just give up on their dreams. And I think Ryan did that for a lot of people.”
