I would expect the audience for a Lego Ninjago movie to not extend very far beyond the audience for the TV show. Lego Batman could draw good box office though with Will Arnett in the role if it's well done.

‘Lego’ Sequel Taps ‘Community’ Director Rob Schrab
February 24, 2015 | 03:22PM PT Dave McNary
Warner Bros. has tapped TV director Rob Schrab to make his feature directorial debut on “The Lego Movie Sequel.”
The studio has not dated “The Lego Movie Sequel” yet but it’s probably heading for a 2018 release.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who wrote and directed “The Lego Movie,” are writing the sequel based on a story by Lord, Miller, Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan. Lord and Miller will also produce along returning producers Dan Lin and Roy Lee.
“We are so excited to collaborate with Rob,” Lord and Miller said. “He is a comedy genius, a visual savant, and we have been stalking him for years. No one works harder than Rob, and his aesthetic, combined with his sense of humor, bring a strong, unique, thoughtful, and passionately nerdy voice to this project. People who know him are slapping their foreheads today and saying, ‘Of course!’”
Schrab has recently directed episodes of “Community,” “The Mindy Project” and “Parks and Recreation.” He also wrote, directed and executive produced “The Sarah Silverman Program.”
“The Lego Movie Sequel” is the fourth film in the franchise for Warner Bros., which has spinoff “Ninjago” set for a Sept. 23, 2016, release, and the untitled Batman Lego for May 2017.
“The Lego Movie” grossed over $460 million worldwide. Lord and Miller came on to write and produce the sequel in October.

I like "The Lego Movie Sequel" as a title much better than "The Lego Movie 2."
Although then I don't know what to call the third one if they go that far.

The changes keep on coming for “The Lego Movie Sequel.”
After moving the animated movie to Feb. 8, 2019, Warner Bros. has also hired Raphael Bob-Waksberg to rewrite the script.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who directed the first film, penned the original draft. With the duo currently prepping for the “Star Wars” Han Solo spinoff, the studio opted to get a fresh take on the script.
Rob Schrab is directing with Lord and Miller producing along with returning producers Dan Lin and Roy Lee.
“The Lego Movie Sequel” is the fourth film in the Warner Bros. franchise, which has two other spinoffs on the horizon: “The Lego Batman Movie” is set for Feb. 10, 2017, and “The Lego Ninjago Movie” is scheduled for Sept. 22, 2017.

If The Lego Movie Sequel becomes a 90-minute long Lego Bojack Horseman episode, I will be so happy.

On the podcast Shanlian on Batman, LEGO BATMAN director Chris McKay - who was the former director hired for LEGO MOVIE 2, before being replaced by Mike Mitchell (SKY HIGH, TROLLS) - talked about where the sequel will be heading:
Lego 2 is going to be this big musical and space action movie...They need a lot of the writing, a lot of development, not only with script development, but development with songwriters. So it was very ambitious to get that movie out.

Not sure I love the idea of those genres, but who knows. Chris Pratt gonna reprise right? This ain't going to be like an anthology type series with different characters in each is it?

Tiffany Haddish is on board to voice one of the stars in Warner Bros. Animations’ “The Lego Movie 2,” sources tell Variety.
“Trolls” director Mike Mitchell has been tapped to direct the pic. Producers are “Lego Movie” directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, along with Dan Lin and Roy Lee. Jill Wilfert from Lego Group, Chris McKay, and Jinko Gotoh are executive producing.
Lord and Miller wrote the first draft of the script for the sequel with Raphael Bob-Waksberg coming on board for a re-write. Matt Fogel has written the latest draft.
The plot and details of Haddish’s character are being kept under wraps.
Allison Abbate and Chris Leahy overseeing for Warner Animation Group.
“The Lego Movie 2” is set to bow on Feb. 8, 2019. “The Lego Movie” grossed nearly $470 million worldwide in 2014 amid strong support from critics and fans.
Haddish’s star has been on the rise since her breakout role in the Universal comedy “Girl’s Trip.” Since then, she set a new milestone on “Saturday Night Live” as the first black female stand-up comedian to host and lined up several projects. She is currently set to star opposite Melissa McCarthy in New Line’s “The Kitchen” and is also attached to star in the Universal comedy “The Temp.”
Haddish’s other upcoming projects include starring alongside Tracy Morgan in TBS’ “The Last OG,” which will be released in 2018; she recently wrapped production on Universal’s “Night School” opposite Kevin Hart. She also has “Limited Partners” in development with Paramount, which she will star in and serve as an executive producer on as well.
Outside of her film and TV projects, she is also set to release her book “The Last Black Unicorn,” which comes out Dec. 5, and just announced 2018 dates for her new stand-up tour “She Ready.”
She is repped by Principato Young, APA, Gordon Bobb and Lily Tillers, and Del, Shaw, Moonves FIRM.

I saw the trailer in front of The Grinch and it seemed cute. I feel like the other LEGO movies that came out took away a little something from this though.

This would be a pretty obscure reference if it was one, so I'm leaning more toward coincidence -- or IS it? -- but either way a rocket house would be cool.

I find it odd that Lego city became a dystopian place after the events of the first Lego movie, but maybe that's just a parody in and of itself.
