Sid Caesar has died
What a career. Sid Caesar, one of the first stars created by television via his weekly live comedy program “Your Show of Shows,” has died at 91. TV host Larry King announced the news on Twitter. Caesar, partnered with Imogene Coca, is credited with breaking ripe comedic ground with the 90-minute live program: It didn’t rely on vaudeville or standup-inspired material but rather on long skits and sketches written by an impressive roster of comedy writers including Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, Neil Simon, Larry Gelbart, Lucille Kallen and Mel Tolkin. Re: Sid Caesar has died
I think Kirk has gotta be next... but maybe he'll live too be 150. Either him or Casey Kasem.

Re: Sid Caesar has died
Not a good week. Sid Caesar was a legend.
RIP. |
Re: Sid Caesar has died
Man.. yeah what a legend. Well at least they have the casino named after him in Vegas still.
|
Re: Sid Caesar has died
A Legend. He also had a kick ass goatee for the last decade or so.

Re: Sid Caesar has died
I wonder how many times they've had to re-edit the In Memorium video for this year's Oscar in the last two weeks.

Re: Sid Caesar has died
Man, I remember watching some of his shows with my grandmother. Always thought he was a pretty funny guy.

However, Don Knotts died shortly before an Oscar show and he wasn't even mentioned in the following year's show. |

Edit: I was assuming you meant only 2013 deaths count. |

Re: Sid Caesar has died
My copy of the Criterion Blu-ray of IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD arrived yesterday. Who's left from the main cast of that film (i.e. those involved in the actual pursuit of the $)? Only Mickey Rooney at this point.

Re: Sid Caesar has died
This is the most stacked Oscar In Memoriam year ever and you still have Olivia DeHavilland who is in Hospice care and could pass any day now. I could realistically see them Fawcetting Sid Ceaser and Oscar winner Gabriel Axel.

That's definitely not true. You think Philip Seymour Hoffman won't show up in this upcoming death segment?
RIP Sid Caesar. I admit that I really wasn't familiar with his work outside of his bit part in Grease, but I knew he was considered a legend in comedy. |

I've noticed that in the past few years that the Memoriam segement seems to focus more on people who are more unknown to the public like screenwriters, art directors and execs lately. I remember that the 80's/90's Oscar shows mostly had nothing but actors. |
Re: Sid Caesar has died
I thought Brutus killed him a long time ago.

Re: Sid Caesar has died
This one hurts. I grew up on Caesar's sketches. A brilliant, groundbreaking comedian whose influence can be felt all over comedy today. I'll have to watch My Favorite Year again soon.

Re: Sid Caesar has died
No, I don't think he was.

Re: Sid Caesar has died
Did anyone check his hand for a winning Keno ticket?
Sorry to reference Vegas Vacation. It was all I had. :rip: |
Re: Sid Caesar has died
Now Mickey Rooney is the last man left from the fire escape at the end of IaMMMMW. :(
