Re: Philip Seymour Hoffman has died

Real sad news.

I real thought that he might break his drug habit but guess wrong. Total waste of life and leave his three children fatherless.

Terrible news. RIP.

I wonder how many years he's been using heroin?

I also had no idea of his drug addiction. Terrible shame as he was a great actor and one of my favorite's.

if you are going to play out a scene true to life from Before The Devil Knows You're Dead let it be the fucking Marisa Tomei scene not the heroin injection scene

He apparently started in his early twenties, and detoxed at 22, then fell off the wagon a couple years ago and detox'd again last May after a prescription drug addiction led back to heroin for a year.

Surprising though.

Saw the headline at ComingSoon.net. Truly stunned. One of the all-time greats. Man, is he missed!

Well, Hoffman died of a heroin overdose, and I don't see anyone advocating for its legalization "because it's harmless."

Yeah, I haven't seen many "legalize heroin" campaigns.

Also, strange that two Best Actor Oscar winners have died within 2 days.

And you'd think he'd have been a tad thinner if he was shooting up. You rarely see overweight heroin junkies. That's just a system overload. He's shooting up and eating a lot. I'm sure they will do the autopsy and find more things wrong with him.

Or as it's otherwise known, at least in North America, as Pirate Radio. Great flick by either name, though.

Sad news about Hoffman. I didn't realize he was so young. I always thought he was older than me, but no.

Yeah, I refuse to watch the Pirate Radio cut. They neutered it for the American release. So I've heard.

Sydney Poitier better watch his back.

RIP, a terrific actor. I didn't know about his drug problem either.

RIP to a great talent. Addiction is a bitch.
Don't judge the man unless you have walked in his shoes. Some people use drugs to numb themselves, others alcohol (which is legal and can kill you) and others stuff their faces with fast food.

Re: Philip Seymour Hoffman has died

Ever since he played Scotty in Boogie Nights, I've been a fan. Am truly saddened by his passing . Like with Gandolfini's recent death, this hurts. Owning Mahoney was on just yesterday. Watched a few minutes of it and was reminded how good that was.

I've had both Pirate Radio and Jack Goes Boating sitting on my DVR for the longest time. Will make it a priority to watch them this week.

It's got some different bits and cut parts that give some of the characters a bit more meat to their bones, but those are available to view among the deleted scenes. I'll give you that the original UK version (and title) may be a better overall flick, but the other version is not that bad

Just pointing out that most might be more familiar with the Pirate Radio version, as that is the version in the US readily available, and they have likely not seen, or were even aware of the Boat That Rocked cut.

Seems appropriate:

"I'm a fucking idiot" - Philip Seymour Hoffman as Scotty, in Boogie nights.
