Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) -- S: Kendrick, Wilson, Banks Dir: Elizabeth Banks

Elizabeth Banks will make her feature directorial debut with Pitch Perfect 2, the sequel to Universal and Gold Circle’s hit 2010 musical comedy.

Banks, who also co-starred in and produced the original, is returning in the same capacity to the sequel.

Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, who also starred in the original, are likely to return, according to insiders.

Perfect centered on a freshman (Kendrick) who reluctantly joins a college a cappella group called the Bellas and leads it to the finals. The movie grossed more than $115 million worldwide on a $17 million budget. It also over-performed in ancillary markets with the studio estimating it generated roughly $135 million in physical and digital home entertainment sales across North America to date. The soundtrack was also a smash, going platinum with over 1 million units sold while single Cups went nearly triple platinum with combined sales of a little less than 3 million units sold.

"Elizabeth originated the idea for Pitch Perfect and was instrumental in making the first film such a huge success,” said Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley. “She brings an enormous amount of energy and experience to everything she works on and we’re thrilled that she is making her feature directorial debut on Pitch Perfect 2.”

I surprisingly really enjoyed Pitch Perfect. Liked the songs and Anna Kendrick was good. Interesting that they are giving Banks her 1st directing gig here.

Pretty much everything you said. I enjoyed the first more than I should. Banks is a producer on these, so it's cool she's stepping up to the plate. Hopefully it's better than her Movie 43 directing effort.

Agree, definitely not the type of movie I would normally like but this movie had undeniable charm and energy, with a little bit of Christopher Guest thrown in. Will be difficult to duplicate though.

Guess now we can start a "Hottest Feature Director" poll and have a clear-cut winner.

Enjoyed the first quite a bit; I find myself watching it whenever it's on. I only hope the sequel is more than just "we're in trouble and we need you (Anna Kendrick) to help us find success again."

also the 'hollywood is sexist for not hiring female directors' people can shut up..'

Curious to see what songs they decide to pick. Or if they'll wait till production starts to decide what 'current hits' to use. ala Glee

Ida Lupino would give her a run if we weren't limited to contemporary

What's with all the "no" in your post, Supermallet?

I never saw the first. I was afraid it would kind of veer into genericness. Kendrick looked cool in it though.

My no post is in response to a sequel to an overrated, over-quoted, disappointment of a film.

I was totally with the movie for about 20 minutes, then it nose-dived into total craptasticness.

Hrmmmm. That's what I feared about watching the film. Soooo neat set up but meh execution after that?

I don't think that opinion would be widely held. It is a solid fun movie.

I know it's not a widely held opinion, but I swear it's like someone created a fun vacuum and turned it on 20 minutes into the film. Rebel Wilson was the only consistently entertaining element. Also, whoever keeps giving Adam DeVine jobs needs to be strung up by their balls and pelted with thumb tacks.

Movies hit people different I hear you. I kind of feel that way about Nolan's movies, there is no life to his movies and consistently inane plotting that ruins the experience for me, but that is not a widely held opinion either.

Kay Cannon, who penned “Pitch Perfect,” is writing the screenplay for the sequel.

Nolan has a tendency to tell more than show. The plotting never really bugs me, it's the fact he chooses to explain every little detail and then show it.

I'm down for Pitch Perfect 2, the first one was surprisingly hugely entertaining.

I have to say I agree. Though I didn't realize this was overrated as I usually hear very little about it from anyone outside the silly "Cups" song that radio stations feel they need to play constantly.

While some of the songs in the movie were well done, it was mostly pointless as it seemed many of them were cut short.

And I can't stress this enough but any movie that features projectile vomit snow angels will NEVER get multiple views in my house!

I like the movie a lot, but the projectile vomiting scene really didn't need to be in there, at least not the second one; I have no idea what in the hell they were thinking.

Pitch Perfect was all right. Had some real funny moments, some of the girls were good, but the quiet one got old real fast.

But these people know all the words to every song ever, on the fly, during that showdown in the commons? Also by my calculations it is impossible for someone with the main character's personality traits to have never seen The Breakfast Club.

It was like a studio exec stuck his nose in and said "We need a bit of gross-out humor to attract those teenage boys to the theater!"
