Pan (2015, D: Joe Wright) S: Jackman, Hedlund, Mara, Seyfried

The origin story of the classic character Peter Pan, the boy who could fly and never grew up.

Hugh Jackman has officially closed a deal to play the pirate Blackbeard in Warner Bros. “Pan.”

Variety first reported Jackman was in talks to star in the pic that Joe Wright is directing and Garrett Hedlund is also in talks to star in as Hook.

WB had gone to Javier Bardem for the role, but the actor passed and the studio pursued Jackman shortly after that.

While the Australian actor isn’t known for playing villains, Jackman has shown the ability to take on the darker roles. His recent perf in WB’s “Prisoners” got high praise from critics and though he’s not the bad guy in the film, the part is much edgier than his previous roles, even that of the anti-hero Wolverine in the “X-Men” movies.

The pic bows on July 17, 2015. Jackman is repped by WME.
Not to be confused with "Peter and the Starcatcher" - which Gary Ross is directing.

Yeah. We have two Wrights to give a damn about in film right now. Joe and Edgar. For a moment there I got really excited thinking Jackman would do something different with Wright, of the Edgar type.

If ya got a name that is known for more than one film person... Put the Initial for the first name or the name itself.

I came in here expecting an Edgar Wright directed movie about bread, starring composer Henry Jackman.

Instead I leave with a movie by Joe "Hanna was kind of cool" Wright, starring Wolverine. Still likely about bread.

Re: Pan (2015, Joe Wright) S: Hugh Jackman

Rooney Mara is in negotiations to play Tiger Lily in Warner Bros.' Peter Pan origin tale Pan.

Joe Wright, who directed Atonement and Pride & Prejudice, is directing from a script by Jason Fuchs.

Hugh Jackman is playing Blackbeard and Garrett Hedlund will take on the role of Hook in the film, which will tell the tale of a young orphan boy from London who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he faces off against Blackbeard, the story's main villain.

The young Pan has yet to be cast, but will be a boy between 10 and 12 years old.

Sarah Schechter, Greg Berlanti and Paul Webster are producing. Courtenay Valenti is overseeing for the studio.

The film, which is slated for release on July 17, 2015, is a reimagining of the classic tale, and will present a very different take on the story and its characters, featuring an international cast.

Mara is currently shooting lesbian drama Carol with Cate Blanchett. Her most recent films include Her, Ain't Them Bodies Saints, Side Effects and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. She's repped by WME, Management 360 and Stone, Meyer.

I'd rather see a movie about the Greek god Pan.

I kinda thought they might be adapting the old Arthur Machen story. Well, at least for the first ten minutes of the film, followed by another sixty of the same old jump-scare CGI bullshit that passes for horror these days.

After a long search to find Peter Pan for its origins tale “Pan,” Warner Bros. has tapped newcomer Levi Miller to play the title role.

He joins Hugh Jackman who will play the the pirate Blackbeard, Garrett Hedlund who has been tapped to play Hook and Rooney Mara who is in talks to play Tiger Lily. Joe Wright will direct.

Jason Fuchs penned the script with Greg Berlanti, Paul Webster and Sarah Schechter producing. Courtenay Valenti is overseeing for the studio.

The film will be a new take on the classic story. It is set during WWII and follows an orphan who is kidnapped by pirates and brought to Neverland, where he discovers he’s destined to save the land from the pirate Blackbeard.

The world being created is international — and with a very different title character than previously imagined.

Wright was looking for a new discovery for the role of Pan, conducting an extensive casting search in the UK with open calls, and Miller seems to fit the bill — his biggest credit to date is an episode of “Terra Nova.” He is repped by CESD.

Damn. That first image I can tell it is him but the others not so much. Always cool to see Jackman do something different. Really wish he did more work.

Joe Wright features tend to be really well made but utterly joyless, hopefully he does the balance right in this, looks like he may have. Visually it looks like a storybook which I guess is a good thing.

Definitely looks good visually, but I'm not sure the premise is that interesting.

Re: Pan (2015, Joe Wright) S: Jackman, Hedlund, Mara, Seyfried

I loved Atonement, really dug Pride & Prejudice and Hanna. So he gets a pass from me. Still need to see that one w/ Foxx and his Karenina. I'm not a fan of little kids being leads in a film. Good or bad, I'm just not a fan of them. They have to hit me right to outright like them. Very few do that for me. Scorsese's Hugo being one of them.
