Thanks for the link.

I wish someday they would release a new remastered edition of No One Can Do It Better.

I'm about to check this out in a few hours, but I got spoiled and browsed through the complete cast of characters at imdb. Spotted:
Warren G
Arabian Prince
Sir Jinx
Hank Shocklee (Cool)

And I already knew about the future superstars who appear towards the end. Oh, and F. Gary Gray himself plays "Greg Mack". For a moment there, I thought that was the "Flava in your Ear" guy.

I hope this movie does well so we can get the Tim Dawg biopic.

Wow. Talk about a blast from the past. I remember back when "Fuck Compton" was released. Caused some trouble. I think Tim Dog died a few years ago.

There are so many urban Legends about T Dawg. I loved that album, not because of the lyrics but more for the swag/'tude. "Goin' Wild in the Penile" was a particular favorite.

Was always a Cube fan and still listen to Amerikkkas Most Wanted regularly so I'm a bit biased on my meh towards 100 miles and 4life. I think EZ slipped after EZ does it. Then again Cube wrote a lot for that as well.

I thought this movie was great. I told my daughter when D.O.C. appeared in the movie that I had spoken with him on the phone a few times. This was shortly after the accident that took his voice away. I even felt more emotional about the portrayal of Eazy's death than I did when it happened in '95. Maybe it was because I was younger then, 20 years old, and wasn't as affected then by the passing of others as I am now. I remember Selena also being murdered during that period in the first part of '95. I really blame Suge Knight as the ultimate reason that N.W.A. never got back together as he created animosity where it was not needed.

I was actually thinking about this just the other day and wouldn't mind seeing an origin story for them. They deserve it as their voices were and still are important in the entire landscape of hip hop.

Also, Bone Thugs were at least mentioned but there was no appearance of either Daz or Kurupt, who were a huge part of Death Row.

Suge can be blamed for a lot of shit. He got everything he had by being a thug bully.
Now he's a little bitch in jail who cry's because he cant stand up in court or he cant see.

I heard that the one survivor in the hit and run murder charge is unwilling to testify against him. It is possible he could walk. Also, I don't think he gives two shits about any of his artists and I doubt he shed one tear when Tupac died.

Here is a recent article about his troubles and it seems that he is done for no matter how it pans out. His health is waning and could be karma for just being a shitty person.

I can remember "Dogg Food" being probably my most anticipated album of all time. Still didn't have the internet in 94 and early 95, and I think I called my local record store probably 50 times over the course of a few months waiting on it.

I used to hang out with Daz just before he left and went back to California to work with Snoop and Dre on the Chronic and eventually create Dogg Food. I have only seen him once since then when he got me, my wife and a buddy of mine in and backstage when they came through Tulsa in 2001. Got a chance to meet Snoop in person after having spoken with him on the phone a time or two.

Ice Cube son stole the movie for me... the one who played Easy E and Dre were good. But O'shea was pretty damn good.

Re: STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON (NWA Biopic) - 2015 D: F. Gary Gray

I really feel like I might write up a full review on this one, but here's what I posted on Facebook:

So, "Straight Outta Compton." Anyone who really knows me well, knows I've been an Ice Cube fan since I was nine years old; "Death Certificate" is one of my all time favorite albums and I probably listen to it monthly. I was extremely nervous at how badly an NWA biopic could go, especially with F. Gary Gray at the helm. The good news is that it exceeded all my expectations and is a very entertaining, and generally engaging epic. The film sadly though, suffers from revisionist history with the close involvement of Dr. Dre. For the most part the personal foibles of all the major players are covered in at least passing, if not in great detail (the film does nothing to change my perception of Eazy-E as a slimy snake). The major exception is Dr. Dre's notable violent assault on Dee Barnes in the early 90s; Dre was not the somewhat saintly character the film tries to portray him as. Dre himself in the past few days has admitted his violent past, but still, anyone walking away from this film might have some big misconceptions about the man (on my way out from the theater, a dad was telling his son Eazy-E may have been a great performer, but was no one to idolize; the same in some ways should be said of Dre). At the end of the day, the film does lose a lot of steam in its final forty minutes as it splits into three nearly separate stories; I honestly feel it's a film that will benefit from a more roomy director's cut. Most importantly to me though, the film really shows a whole new generation and the uninitiated the cultural impact of not just NWA but Ice Cube, who is now almost a household name in family comedy. If you even have a passing interest in rap or music history, don't miss your chance of seeing this on the big screen, it's one of 2015's better offerings.

If you don't mind me asking, do you work in the music business or something?

It's looking like this is going to clear $60 million for its opening weekend. That's fucking impressive.

I hope some executive doesn't try to push a sequel to this through.

Not at all. These guys were all just people with dreams and friends before they made their way in the business. Being a part of the business was never in my interest despite having an affinity for rap music and even writing lyrics.

A sequel? What would they do? Show Ice Cube's launch into family movies and Dre's headphone empire?

I don't think you have to worry with a sequel.

Movie was okay. Pretty sloppily edited and choppy throughout. Critics saying it runs out of steam in the second half, that's where the film's best scenes were imo. It's the final 10 minutes that really bother me though.. Turns into a stupid Dr. Dre commercial, ending with the line "Aftermath" and then the clip over the credits of him finalizing the mult-million dollar deal with Apple. gtfo.

Well, that is what happened. Crazy to think that a rap group from the streets would turn out a billion dollar mogul and an actor that has appeared in quite a few successful movies. We could only imagine how things would be different now if Eazy were still alive and Suge never came into the picture. Jerry Heller might have stolen some money, but I think that many people that have their hands in the pot that don't actually contribute to the product do that. I bet that there are some people out there in society that will connect the dots for the first time that Beats by Dre came from the same guy that was once a part of N.W.A. So, yeah it was kind of important that they put that in at the end of the movie.

Agreed. This wasn't some fake 'gangsta' movie. It was the story of some kids who society probably would have not even noticed but they did something about it.
What exactly did you want the movie to end on? Eazy dying then just fade to black?

So this made $60 million in the opening weekend. How much do our box office experts think this movie could make during its run?

Does this have legs at all?
