I'm assuming this goes from the beginning days to Eazy's death... that is a lot of ground to cover in one film. This would have been great as a 2 part HBO miniseries... part one could cover the rise up until Cube leaving the group, with part 2 covering the feuds and eventual reconciliations with Eazy's death.

Are there any actors short enough to play Easy E ? Besides Peter Dinklage that is. I think putting black face on a little person would be trouble.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but by doing a little Googling I found out that he's a former NBA basketball player who's considered to be the best of all time (even better than Lebron) and won six Championship titles with the Chicago Bulls.
He appeared in Space Jam and won acclaim for his acting ability, which I guess is why people want to see him in more movies.

I'll be honest and admit I find almost every one of these biopics an insipid waste of time. Hollywood continues to make them, I guess there is a market for them. The critical casting in this movie is who will play Jerry Heller.

The N.W.A. flick "Straight Outta Compton" just got christened with a drive-by shooting ... right in front of the movie crew.
Eyewitnesses tell TMZ ... the gunfire erupted outside the Compton Courthouse last week when some neighborhood guys, not actors, flashed gang signs at a passing car.
We're told the gunmen were NOT targeting the crew -- but since they were setting up outside the courthouse the bullets came dangerously close. One nearby civilian was hit, and collapsed next to the set ... but survived.
The L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. tells us the shooting is under investigation. They have not yet determined if it was gang-related.
We're told filming will continue this week in a rough area of Compton ... even though many members of the cast and crew are shaken, and worried about their safety.

Straight Outta Compton, the new biopic about N.W.A. directed by F. Gary Gray, is set to hit theaters on August 14th, 2015. One of the group’s principal members Ice Cube (who also serves as an executive producer) recently debuted the film’s first trailer during a concert in Australia. A fan-shot recording has since made its way online, which you can watch below.

I've not context for that trailer's subject matter aside from knowing as something that happened when I was a little kid pretty much. So I don't know MC Ren but I know who Ice Cube and Dr. Dre are. Sooooo... does it look good to people who grew up w/ it?

The trailer makes it look like a typical Hollywood biopic where they exaggerate things at the expense of historical accuracy. If that's the case, I won't be too interested in seeing it, especially if they focus on playing up the aspects of gangsta fairy tales that NWA pushed as reality. If it's a more sincere biopic and they show things like Ice Cube graduating from trade school or college before fully committing to a career in rap, or Dr. Dre and Yella starting their music career with the electro-dance group World Class Wreckin' Crew, that would be cool.
It does look entertaining though and the casting seems good except for Paul Giamatti who comes across like a cartoon with his line delivery. I would have expected to see a Lee Strasberg type to portray Jerry Heller.
