They can always do the Alpha Flight movie before introducing the X-Men.

He was trapped in ice.

I really think Fantastic Four are more likely to happen sooner. Simply because they'll be a bit easier to integrate I feel. Adding the X-Men and mutants could realistically make up a good chunk of a phase of films. Fantastic Four are a lot easier to put into motion because they don't need quite as much set up. They'll have their origin and that's that and they can move along with them from there.

re: The General Marvel Cinematic Universe Film discussion thread - News, rumors, etc.

Thor: Ragnarok arguably saved the franchise, and while we don't know how things will play out for the God of Thunder in Avengers: Endgame, the hope is that a fourth installment will receive the green light from Marvel Studios in the not too distant future.

With any luck, Taika Waititi will once again be at the helm and it's easy to imagine Thor 4 being a billion dollar hit based on how the last instalment was received. Now, actress Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie) has revealed that the movie has been pitched to the studio by the filmmaker.

"I heard that a pitch has happened for [another "Thor" film]," she reveals. "I don't know how real that intel is, but I hear that the pitch has happened. I think the idea is Taika [Waititi, who directed 'Ragnarok'] would come back."

That's a little vague, but potentially fantastic news nonetheless, as it would be great to see more of Thor's adventures alongside characters like Valkyrie, Korg, and Miek. Captain America and Iron Man's post-Endgame fates in the Marvel Cinematic Universe remain something of a mystery, but the Thor franchise living on ensures that there's still a familiar face around from the first three Phases!

That's what I kind of think will happen, if Hemsworth is done with the role, and it could be really cool.

So this Twitter account posted some pretty big Endgame spoilers months ago that turned out to be true. Don't go here if you don't want to see spoilers

Two other things mentioned is that Marvel is interested in movies for Black Knight and Thunderbolts with Zemo, Ghost, Justin Hammer, General Ross, and the Abomination. The Leader is being discussed to return as the main villain.

I've been waiting for some follow through TIH characters. It would be cool to see some of them come back.

re: The General Marvel Cinematic Universe Film discussion thread - News, rumors, etc.

After 22 movies and more than a decade, the gargantuan Avengers: Endgame was the last roll of the dice — or Infinity Stones, as it were — for several key characters. But figuring out which stars are staying in the fold at Marvel Studios or saying their final farewells isn't as easy as a Thanos snap of the fingers. (Warning: Endgame Spoilers below.)

Spoiler:
Take the fate of Scarlett Johansson, aka Black Widow. Her story arc is definitive in Endgame, but the actress who plays the spy heroine will be returning for a 2020 stand-alone film, earning a figure in the $20 million range for both starring and producing. Or Chris Hemsworth, i.e. Thor, who signed with Marvel for five movies in 2010, then renegotiated in 2017 for Infinity War and Endgame, putting himself in the $15 million to $20 million range and ready for the next phase of films. Captain America Chris Evans, who also had a five-picture deal, not including cameos, renegotiated in the same $15 million to $20 million range before meeting his fate in Endgame.

Meanwhile, the face of the franchise, Robert Downey Jr. — Iron Man himself since 2008 — had negotiated a unique financial arrangement with studio chief Kevin Feige that over the years resulted in massive paydays for the actor. Downey receives backend from the Avengers movies: Multiple knowledgeable sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the actor likely walked away from 2018's Infinity War, which grossed more than $2 billion, with at least $75 million. Even in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming, he received $5 million a day for three days' work.

For other star deals, the math is changing. As the Marvel films have hit new heights at the global box office since Iron Man grossed $585 million worldwide, the studio is said to have raised the threshold for star bonuses. Several years ago, a bonus would kick in after the $500 million global mark, says an agent with insight into the dealmaking process. That threshold later became $700 million. Now, especially for Avengers movies, bonuses don't kick in until the film hits at least $1.5 billion, this source says. (Marvel and the actors' reps declined comment.)

Part of Marvel's next phase includes the segueing of many characters to their own series on Disney's new streaming service, Disney+. Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier) and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) negotiated deals that are separate from the movie contracts for what sources say will be six to eight episodes.

Those contracts don't negate appearances in future Marvel movies, which could result in a separate round of dealmaking. The next few big-screen adventures build on the plot threads of Endgame. Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) have one more option apiece, which will result in sequels to their solo movies, say sources.

Then there are new additions to the cinematic universe such as Eternals, which will be led by Angelina Jolie and start shooting this year, and Shang-Chi, centered on an Asian hero yet to be cast that will shoot after Eternals. And Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is planned for a 2020 shoot — the current five stars are expected to reunite — with James Gunn back in the saddle as director. Adds one source: "With Marvel and with Kevin, there's always a long game in play."

Geez... between IW and Endgame, RDJ is going to pull $150mil +.

Sure... but this is a thread about the future. Spoilers about what has happened would seem obvious when entering. And nothing in that article says what happens. Just "their fate".

Oh I know, just being cautious

I read that article earlier today and they should have put some warning around it or used different wording since I'm sure a lot of people will see that article in different news feeds.

Specifically around

They'll just dump the holocaust and pick a different decade and whatever war goes in that time period.

He could be a survivor of a Genoshan genocide, or something like that.

Rumor: Development on ‘Nova’ Has Begun

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is going very cosmic after the success of Guardians of the Galaxy, Infinity War, Endgame, and Captain Marvel. Next year’s The Eternals is just the beginning, and Cosmic Marvel characters fans have wanted to see on the big screen are well on their way. This next one will make some people very happy.

According to a source that has been 100% in the past, such as telling me in October who Katherine Langford was in Avengers: Endgame, development on a Nova film has begun. There’s no word how far into development it is, so it could still be years away, but it’s apparently now underway.

It shouldn’t be surprising that it’s happening, as last year during the Infinity War press tour Kevin Feige told ComicBook.com about the character, “Nova is… if we have a big board with a bunch of characters that have more immediate potential, Nova is on that board. Because of the connection to the Guardians universe, because there are more than one examples to pull from in the comics that are interesting. And you’re absolutely right, he was in the earliest drafts of the [Guardians of the Galaxy].”

Now the big question is which Nova will it be? Marvel Studios went with Carol Danvers for the MCU Captain Marvel, and Richard Rider is the fan favorite choice for Nova. On the other hand with so many young heroes set to be introduced, Sam Alexander will also fit in well but isn’t quite as popular with fans. Perhaps both could show up in the MCU in some way? Do Richard in the movies like Carol Danvers, and then Sam in a Disney+ thing? We’ll have to wait and see.

Kevin Feige held a Reddit AMA on Wednesday answering everything from his plans for the future of the Marvel films to his favorite MCU moment. In response to a question asking if there were any plans to incorporate the Ten Rings or The Mandarin into future Marvel titles, Kevin Feige simply responded, “Yes.”

If they go back on that Mandarin take for IM3 I'll be annoyed (yes I know they did that in the One Shot but that's not a full-length movie release). I really loved subverting the expectations on that.

Probably never would have known it happened otherwise.

A great read, so far.

Seeing Feige describe himself as a big film score nerd makes me

re: The General Marvel Cinematic Universe Film discussion thread - News, rumors, etc.

Now that the superhero dust has settled, and Avengers: Endgame has made us both stand up and cheer one second, and sit down and cry the next, the future of the MCU is the talk of the town. We know the next Avengers-themed Marvel movie to swing into theaters will be Spider-Man: Far From Home. But what of the beloved team-ups and crossovers, like Thor and Hulk in Ragnarok, or the Guardians of the Galaxy?

Well, We Got This Covered has learned from our source that the next big Marvel team-up/crossover movie won’t be until New Avengers. The studio’s still only “rumored” to be making the film, with an alleged date for its release recently leaking as May 6th, 2022, but our intel says it’s definitely happening. Which means in three short years, we could see the likes of Iron Lad, Hulkling, Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye, Patriot, Wiccan, Stature and Vision 2.0 on the big screen.

Now, we should specify that projects like Guardians Vol. 3 are still moving forward. It’s only the big, multi-franchise crossovers that we saw with the Avengers series that the studio will be holding back on. And given that they just wrapped those up with Endgame, that makes perfect sense.

It’s still unclear how exactly Marvel will begin to form the new team and introduce them into the MCU, but the seeds have definitely been planted for the next generation of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. During Tony Stark/Iron Man’s funeral scene at the end of Endgame, for instance, we caught a glimpse of a mysterious teen. As you surely know by now, it turned out to be Ty Simpkins, who played Harley Keener, the boy who befriended Stark in Iron Man 3. He seems to be at the top of many lists to lead the Young Avengers – or New Avengers, if that’s what they’re calling them for the film – but we’ll have to leave those decisions up to Kevin Feige.
