Burt Reynolds: mustache or no mustache?

Watching Deliverance on BD now. I've seen the film a few times but never owned it till the BF sale. I can't get past the visual of Reynolds without the mustache. It bothers the hell out of me. Fits the character but totally weirds me out.

I grew up with him in Smokey and The Bandit. So that image is just stamped in my mind. Then you go to something like Boogie Nights and well that just oozes his mustached charm.

So what do you prefer? Mustache man Burt or no mustache man Burt?

I've always associated Tom Selleck more when it comes to moustaches. Selleck without a stache is a strange sight.

Burt can pull either off I think.

I know that is not Tom Selleck. It is an example of someone who looks even stranger then Selleck without a mustache.

It's Cary Elwes, from his Superman III days.

Re: Burt Reynolds: mustache or no mustache?

Years ago, people use to say that Burt's films were better when he was not wearing a mustache.

Re: Burt Reynolds: mustache or no mustache?

Burt has the most famous celebrity mustache of all-time, followed closely by Clark Gable. In his heyday Reynolds was a much bigger star than the other uber mustachioed Tom Selleck.

Deliverance is the best film he ever appeared in, narrowly edging out Boogie Nights.

Maybe actor but not celebrity.

Re: Burt Reynolds: mustache or no mustache?

A young Burt looked good without it, but Burt Reynolds with full 'stache is unapproachable in level of coolness. And that goes for the broom usually chilling under Sam Elliot's nose too.
