Saving Mr. Banks: any other movies that dramatize the making of a real movie?

From what I've read about it, some of Saving Mr. Banks will also dramatize P.L. Tavers' memories of her father, the inspiration for Mr. Banks, although the TV spots make it look like the focus is on Walt Disney's negotiations with Travers to make Mary Poppins.

While preparing this thread I came across this one (and its source), claiming that Elaine May and Stanley Donen are working on a script for a movie about the making of a movie. (or is this some kind of put-on?)

Has Hollywood made any other dramatized movies about the making of a movie? While there have been bio-flicks about actors' lives that included scenes of filming and negotiating, I'm wondering if there have been scripted films where the making of a real movie was the main theme.

Edit: Remembered Baadasssss!, which concerned Melvin Van Peebles efforts at making Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song. Mario Van Peebles played the part of his father Melvin.

"Hitchcock" was about the filming of "Psycho."

I really liked Ed Wood.

Movies About Making Movies

I don't agree with at least one of the choices but the rest are worth a watch.

Clint Eastwood's WHITE HUNTER, BLACK HEART (1990) was about the making of THE AFRICAN QUEEN (1951), with Eastwood playing "John Wilson," i.e. John Huston, the director. It was based on screenwriter Peter Viertel's novel based on the making of THE AFRICAN QUEEN. Viertel did uncredited work on the screenplay for Huston's film and, I believe, was on location in Africa for the filming of it. Marisa Berenson, if you can believe it, played Kay Gibson, based on Katharine Hepburn.

STRANGERS KISS (1983), an indie starring Peter Coyote and directed by Matthew Chapman, is supposedly based on the making of Stanley Kubrick's KILLER'S KISS (1955).

That wasn't really about the making of African Queen.

While it technically isn't a film about the making of another real film, Wes Craven's brilliant and underrated New Nightmare is fascinating deconstruction of horror films and culture.

Auto Focus and Hollywoodland kinda fit your criteria, but on the TV side.

Does Tropic Thunder count?

Lost in La Mancha, although the movie in question was never finished.

Under The Rainbow is tangentially related to the making of The Wizard of Oz.

Technically, you're right. It's about Wilson's desire to shoot an elephant while he happens to be in Africa for the making of THE AFRICAN QUEEN. But I think it's a film the OP might want to know about in the spirit of his inquiry.

The Aviator was, in part, about Hughes' making of Hells Angels.

Any list that includes Be Kind, Rewind next to Ed Wood is a complete fail.

Sex Is Comedy is based on the making of the movie Fat Girl.

Under the Rainbow is a fictional story set during the making of Wizard of Oz.

The Girl is centered around Hitchcock's making of The Birds.

RKO 281 is about the making of Citizen Kane
