Re: X-Men: Apocalypse (D: Singer; May 27th, 2016)

Bummer. I've seen all the X movies though, and will probably watch this still too, but won't be in a rush to see it opening weekend.

RT is at 41% so far, 11 to 16.

It's because Jennifer Lawrence can't believably carry 40lbs of mystique makeup

Not all reviews are negative

http://jam.canoe.com/Movies/Reviews/.../22631472.html

"That brings us back to Singer, who directed the first X-Men in 2000. Piece by piece, Singer fits this ninth film in the franchise (which includes Deadpool) into the X-Men universe like a master puzzle maker. He does it so well, at least in terms of storytelling, that the X-Men franchise still has a vigorous future."

Can't be as bad as The Last Stand.

I guess a lot of you guys were right about the destruction without much weight behind it, sounds like i'll eat crow defending the trailers

I was holding out to see what jam.canoe thought. Now I'm sold.

This is what I think too.

Hahaha. The trailers aren't selling it that well for me. But.... Singer has done well w/ this franchise. Stilll... those reviews worry me a bit. I just feel like I don't give a damn to see this movie. I want to be surprised but those trailers bore me honestly.

His conclusion is pretty much the opposite
"However, it does set up some stakes and some new heroes that could bring me back for more. That is if the recipe is right."

I love The Last Stand. There's a lot of good stuff going on in that movie (good character development for Wolverine, the whole issue with, "The cure," and the dramatic questions that it brings up, Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy, etc).

If Apocalypse has that much going for it I'll be happy.

Re: X-Men: Apocalypse (D: Singer; May 27th, 2016)

Unfortunately the plot w/ the cure or the whole of the film isn't all that well. Got interesting things it attempts but fails mostly w/ them in a very mediocre fashion.

Frazier as Hank is great, weird looking fur suit when he's out of politician attire.

I also wasn't a fan of Ratner's framing. Made it very cheap looking at times w/ his framing of the setups.

Re: X-Men: Apocalypse (D: Singer; May 27th, 2016)

The negative reviews mostly don't seem all that negative. Just seems like it had potential to be more and opted to not go that route. Strictly eye candy over storyline.

They aren't consistent with it, but it's valid enough for investor purposes (stocks can fluctuate quite a bit in the days before a big release).

It seems like they've basically adapted the "blog" type of news and opinion pieces. They have bad video game articles too.
