Weekend Box Office - Thanksgiving '13 - Fire, Frozen, (pun goes here) tons of money
Friday:
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - $31,250,000
Frozen - $26,855,000
Thor - $4,451,000
Best Man Holiday - $3,400,000
Delivery Man - $2,726,000
Homefront - $2,632,000
The Book Thief - $1,900,000
Black Nativity - $1,565,000
Philomena - $1,332,000
Last Vegas - $1,105,000
Gravity - $1,075,000
Catching Fire - 5 Day Estimate: $110m, 3 Day Estimate: $76.6m
Frozen - 5 Day Estimate: $90m, 3 Day Estimate: $63.8m
I actually think the 3-day numbers for Frozen are low, and will be a smidge higher when the weekend ends.
Edit:
Wednesday:
Catching Fire $20,700,000
Frozen: $15,214,000
Thrusday:
Catching Fire $14,900,000
Frozen: $11,086,000

Not that Rotten Tomatoes is the end all, but 35% + not a lot of marketing or hype, doesn't seem surprising at all. I never even heard of the movie except for a few commercials recently the last week; and a terrible time to release to boot. Doesn't seem anything to shake a head at. Although the audience ratings are pretty high, so it's probably one of those movies that are more fun then it looks.

Ha, ever heard of Homefront until I read this thread. Written by Stallone, and Statham and James Franco as the frontmen - how could it go wrong? Easily I suppose.

James Franco is in Homefront? Is he going for the record of being in every movie this year?

Moviegoers had no interest in Spike Lee's American remake of Oldboy which debuted to an estimated $850,000 from 583 sites for a pitiful $1,458 average. Reviews were not so great for the FilmDistrict release which had $1.3M in sales since its Wednesday launch. Opening such a dark story over a holiday weekend when audiences demand happy and cheery films was a big gamble from the day it got moved from its previous release date of October 25.

Catching Fire is happy and cheery?
I didn't see a single ad for Oldboy.
