Untitled Friday the 13th film

From Shock Till You Drop:

A new Friday the 13th film is indeed coming. And Paramount has confirmed this by locking in a release date of March 13, 2015.

Yes, that's a Friday the 13th. (The 13th also falls on a Friday in February of that year.)

We learned in June that Warner Bros. relinquished the rights to the franchise and gave them bag to Paramount. The studio had five years to get a new entry in theaters before those rights reverted back to WB.

There are no further details other than that. We know Platinum Dunes will be producing the film. But there is no director and there are rumblings of the producers looking for a "found footage" approach.

We'll keep you posted as more comes in.

***************************************

This sure as fuck better not be found footage.

Then they should just make a direct sequel to the remake.

I would welcome the found footage approach.

Nope. I don't need to see more of Jason "Bob Villa of Crystal Lake" Voorhees. Give me another sequel to the classic timeline (sure, go right ahead and ignore JGTH and X for continuity purposes) with Jason killing stupid teens in the woods. And set it in the goddamn snow for once. I'm OK with keeping Mears on board. I like what he brought to the character, plus he's a super cool dude.

I'd love to see Kane Hodder play the role again. Too bad there's like a zero percent chance of that happening.

For shits and giggles, how about a Jason movie that takes place during 1940 or 1889?

He needs to slim down a bit first. His Jason was getting a little too wide the last couple of movies.

Platinum Dunes is behind this. There went any hope of it being any good (although I mildly enjoyed the reboot).

Hodder is so foreboding and awesome in the role. Would love him to reprise, but I'm on board no matter what as I quite enjoyed the silly remake.

Except it has the rated version of JGTH for some damn reason. Anyway, I heard that the F13 remake was one of better Platinum Dunes ones, which isn't surprising since it was written by Shannon and Swift, who also wrote fanboyish FVJ, which was a lot of fun.

Re: Untitled Friday the 13th film (3/13/15)

Saying F13th is "one of the better Platinum Dunes [releases]" is like saying Stage 1 cancer is better than Stage 4. Shannon and Swift did the series no favors, as far as I'm concerned.

I enjoyed the remake. Good kills, great tits.

Graphic violence and beautiful jugs a great F13th movie make.

Fuck that. The found footage craze for modern horror films is overused to death nowadays. I'm fine with it when it makes sense but a lot of times it doesn't. Just make it a straight up slasher film like the original films, no stupid gimmicks or remakes/reboots. I'd much prefer a loose sequel to the original films. It probably won't happen but I'd love it if the Tommy character was brought back somehow.

The remake was better than any Jason movie after VII.

It was better based on jugs alone.

Re: Untitled Friday the 13th film (3/13/15)

I liked the 2009 remake. It's too bad that New Line/WB abandoned doing a direct sequel to it.

I heard that they had a script already written for it. I have to assume judging by the original post this will be a 100% totally new story then.

Disagreed it was a piece of crap. The best part of it was the prologue but it went downhill quickly after that in my opinion. I do agree the films after The New Blood weren't great, particularly the two New Line entries. Jason Takes Manhattan wasn't all that bad other than it barely actually takes place in Manhattan. Freddy vs. Jason is okay but really feels more like an entry in the Nightmare on Elm Street series.

I forgot about Freddy vs. Jason. That one is on par with the remake. But 8-10, my god, absolutely unwatchable.
