Not to mention that when he finally gets there, it's really Jason Takes Vancouver.

Okay, we'll make Vancouver look like New York and we'll do it that way. But they came back again with, 'You can't do the Brooklyn Bridge in Vancouver. You can't do Madison Square Garden in Vancouver. You can't do the Statue of Liberty in Vancouver.' Pretty soon it was half New York, half on the boat. Then it was the last third in New York. It just kept getting whittled down and down.

I would rate 5 as one of my favorites behind part 4 and 6. The worst one for me is part 7 due to the MPAA butchering the gore.

It's not that I hate A New Beginning it just has a weird vibe to it and really does almost feel more like a porno flick set to a Friday the 13th theme. I never hated the twist to the film or anything though like I know some people did. The New Blood is pretty good but yeah it's unfortunate that it got censored so badly and we'll likely never see a restored cut.

Well I think it's movie ranking time(in order from least favorite to most favorite, not including FVJ).
11. Jason goes to Hell: I liked the beginning, and give them credit for trying something different, but they failed in everything.
10. Jason takes Manhattan: This movie was mediocre but the ending in the sewer just makes it totally stupid. Jensen Dagget was hot though and so was biology chick.
9. A New Beginning: I used to love this one as a kid, but time has really not been kind to it. I think this is the most amateurish of all the Friday movies.
8. The New Blood: This was ruined by the lack of gore, and the stupidity of the finale. Otherwise it would be higher because it has the best looking Jason, and Kane Hodder owning his first appearance.
7. Jason X: It's fun and corny, but not really memorable outside of being fun and corny.
6. 3D: This is ok, but it really would be more enjoyable being seen in 3D.
5. The remake: I think this is one of the better horror remakes. The kills were good, the opening was bad ass, and Mears made a good Jason.
4.Friday the 13th: Tom Savin's gore effects still hold up, the low budget gives it that "grindhouse" feel, but other than that it's pretty unremarkable.
3. Part 2: Steve Miner was a much better director and it shows. The movie was better shot, and this movie features my favorite Friday heroine in Amy Steel. It also has two of my favorite kills( the double impalement, and the wheelchair death).
2. Part 4: Great gore effects by Tom Savini again, one of the most bad ass of the sequels.
1. Jason Lives: This is just so much fun. It has shades of gothic horror, action movies, and was the first movie to feature actual kids! All the cast does really, really well and Tom McLoughlin pulls off all his tributes without making the movie descend into a parody of itself.

FVJ is pretty fun, IMO. It's total nonsense, of course, but it has the good sense to know it. It's a pretty far cry from the intelligence of the Craven entries, but Ronny Yu Yan-Tai has a nice Hong Kong sense of kineticism and visual razzle-dazzle, so it's visually impressive (Fred Murphy is an ace DP), and Shannon and Swift seem like they fanboys too, so the many nods to the other movies in the screenplay are pretty cool. It has all of the requisite blood and boobs, the final showdown action sequence is pretty cool, and it has Englund's final performance as Freddy. It's better than it has any right to be, in all honesty. Sounds like faint praise, but I think it's pretty fun.

Is all we're going to get are sequels to or remakes of the crappy new versions of Friday the 13th ? And nothing of the original, actually scary Jason ?

They just need to deliver the essentials... Jason killing young people in a secluded woodsy setting. No rebooting and retelling the backstory again (except in dialogue), no worrying about continuity with the remake, no crazy gimmicks, no attempt to try and 'explain' Jason or dive deeper into his psyche... just a good fun back-to-basics Friday the 13th film.
Also, I hate the idea of just calling this 'Friday the 13th' again... especially when this is technically the 13th film. Who do they think they are, Weezer? I'd be okay with them calling this 'Friday the 13th Part 13' or 'The 13th Friday' or something, despite the fact the 2009 was a new timeline. I mean, the Manhattan/Hell/X/FvJ chronology is already beyond logic to begin with. And if Halloween could get away with Season of the Witch affecting their numbering (not to mention franchises like The Howling, Silent Night Deadly Night, and others that have no story connection between sequels), it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to consider the remake 'Part 12' in this scenario.

Jason was scary at some point? News to me.
Even as a kid, Jason never scared me. Freddy, maybe. But Jason? Shit, the library ghost in Ghostbusters scared me more as a kid.
Threatening, intimidating, sure. But scary?

I read an as-yet unconfirmed report the other day stating Paramount is definitely doing this as found footage... and as a reboot to the series.
I'll give them credit for such unflinching determination to make this suck balls.

Blah to the found footage idea. I don't see why Paramount thinks they have to do something different because it's trendy at the moment. I'm sure I'll see the film as I'm a fanboy of the franchise but I really don't like found footage for the most part. Especially for something like this where I really don't even see how they can do it and have it make sense. Also don't see why this needs to be rebooted when it was basically already done with the 2009 film. All this needs to be is a simple no gimmicks slasher film. It really doesn't even need to be rebooted at all just a quick little five to ten minute setup would be the most it would really need if they really think they need to reboot the series.

I'm as tired of found footage movies as the next guy but if done right it could actually turn out ok.
I'd shoot it more like The Blair Witch Project where it's presumed to be footage on a camera found in the woods from a group of kids who have gone missing near Crystal Lake as opposed to, say, Diary of the Dead where it's just footage from camcorders for the sake of making a horror film on a budget.
The biggest problem I see with found footage films is that it's all first person views. We'd see Jason pop into view and then the camera would shake and fall to the ground. Friday the 13th movies have always been about the great kills, most of that would be lost using a found footage angle.
Now that's not to say this won't suck because I have no expectations that it will be anything other than found footage for the sake of found footage. I'm just sayin'...

But realistically it really doesn't make a lot of sense for it to be found footage. Like I said earlier unless Camp Crystal Lake is getting a major overhaul for some reason and they have a bunch of security cameras everywhere or there's conveniently a camper with a video recorder I don't see how it can be worked into the story without it seeming forced. Even if one of the campers had a video recorder why would it still be going in a place where you could see the kills happening after that character was killed or why would the person continue filming after realizing Jason is looming? It really just seems like a stupid idea.

^ I agree. That why I mentioned The Blair Witch Project. Making it a group of teens going out to investigate the legend of Jason Voorhees is the only way I could see a found footage films working. But I agree it will seem forced and the "continuing to film while all hell breaks loose" aspect of found footage movies has always bothered me.

This will probably be the first ever Friday the 13th film that I don't bother to see. I really hate found footage movies.

Found footage isn't even trendy anymore. It's almost universally hated at this point. And there is no way in hell the producers don't know this. Baffling.

No interest in a Friday the 13th found footage movie. I'm okay with trying something different, I actually enjoyed Jason Takes Manhattan, but this approach won't work.

Seems like a cheap cash grab. Produce a $10-15m found footage movie with a no name cast like the Paranormal movies and hopefully they will double or triple their profits with the Friday the 13th name.

To me the best found footage movies have been the Paranormal Activity films. At least with the premise of those films it makes sense why there is a bunch of footage of things happening.
