I personally don't like It's a Wonderful Life, so this news doesn't exactly bother me although I think it's kind of odd. Isn't the longest gap between sequels right now The Odd Couple & The Odd Couple II?

There was a sequel, of sorts, to It's a Wonderful Life: a 1990 made-for-TV movie called Clarence, the further misadventures of George Bailey's bungling guardian angel. I saw it once. Clarence has been messing up; he had lost his wings and is further punished by aging in reverse. He helps some people and some other stuff happens. It was so exciting, I couldn't stay awake.

Update: Thankfully, it looks like this sequel won’t be happening. According to a report from the AP, a Paramount spokesperson said no film related to It’s a Wonderful Life can move forward with a license from the studio. They added, “To date, these individuals have not obtained any of the necessary rights, and we would take all appropriate steps to protect those rights.”
