Great! It's about fucking time. They need to move that fucking release date, though, otherwise it's gonna be a repeat of Hellboy 2 all over again. Fucking studios and their lame scheduling.

it’s nestled between the openings of two Marvel movies: Black Panther on February 16 and an untitled Fox/Marvel pic on March 2.
Whatever Marvel film hits March 2nd is not good for PR2.

Jesus. It wouldn't be Deadpool 2... right? Cuz after the amount of bank DP1 made... I don't think anyone really wants to fight against the hill that DP becomes.

The official title of the movie is "Pacific Rim: Maelstrom"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2557478/
Charlie Hunnam revealed that he won't be back for the sequel.
Hunnam tells us that he was approached to reprise his role as hero Raleigh Becket in Steven S. DeKnight’s upcoming sequel to Guillermo Del Toro’s 2013 monster mash, about humanity’s efforts to combat Godzilla-like “kaiju” monsters by using equally titanic human-controlled mecha-robots. Alas, Hunnam was forced to exit the production at an early stage due to scheduling conflicts, but watch the clip above and you’ll see he’s still very much rooting for the sequel: “I’m very excited about it. I’m glad they’re making it.”

Yeah, I thought Charlie was great in the film. The whole back and forth production stalls/cancellations fucked everything up. I don't blame him for moving to other projects.

No Hunnam or Kikuchi? This def has the potential to best the first one. They were the two weakest links for me. The producers could put a cardboard cutout of Hunnam in this sequel and audiences wouldn't even notice.

Those were the only characters that had much depth aside from the comic relief. I have become more fond of the film since I bought the UHD version with Dolby Vision on VUDU is simply amazing.

I have the BD and agree it is visually amazing, yet sadly bereft of good characters aside from Hannibal Chau and Stacker.

'Pacific Rim' Sequel Adds 'Great Wall' Actress
Chinese actress Jing Tian has joined the cast of Legendary’s Pacific Rim sequel.
The actress, who is making her English-language debut in Legendary’s fantasy The Great Wall opposite Matt Damon, will star in the mechs-versus-monsters tentpole alongside John Boyega, Scott Eastwood and Cailee Spaeny.
The film will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight and “based on the world created by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham,” according to the company, which made the announcement Wednesday. No other plot details have been released.
Production is set to begin in November in Australia, with shooting also taking place in China.
The Pacific Rim follow-up is set to be released on Feb. 23, 2018, by Universal, which is handling all territories except China. Legendary will distribute in China directly alongside its parent company Wanda.
Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni and del Toro will produce the action-adventure film, along with Boyega and Femi Oguns under their Upper Room Productions shingle.
Jing, who has appeared in Chinese films such as New Police Story with Jackie Chan, also will be seen in Legendary’s Kong: Skull Island.
The actress is repped by CAA and Starlit TV & Film Ltd. Co.

Still pisses me off that we don't have Rinko Kikuchi in this. I could do fine w/o the male lead in first film being in here but leaving her out just bothers me.

John Boyega Confirms 'Pacific Rim 2' Title
Get ready for "Maelstrom."
Pacific Rim 2 has begun production in Australia, and its star John Boyega has confirmed it's title.
The actor shared a photo of his script, featuring the words Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, which long has been rumored to be the title of the followup to Guillermo del Toro's film.
Boyega rose to star status with last year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens — and in his second franchise will be canceling the apocalypse (again) as the son of Stacker Pentecost (played by Idris Elba in the first film). The previous installment saw a a rift destroyed, presumably preventing monsters from another dimension coming to Earth — but they must have found a way back (we need sequels after all).
First day on Pacific Rim today. Here's to a great adventure ahead

At the same time... as faithful as it is to the genre of this type of stuff.... I don't really care for more young people to be in these Jaegers. I just hope it doesn't add any crap character drama that is pointless.
