ATTENTION:

dan30oly, Arpeggi, Spottedfeather & PenguinJoe please do not enter your "traditional" star review in these threads any longer. Whether intentional or not, it is a troll move to always vote 0 or 1.0 stars, whether you've seen the movie or not, and no longer appreciated in these, somewhat, legitimate reviews threads.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION AND UNDERSTANDING IN THIS MATTER**

I voted no stars, they gave $80m to a mexican to hire two liberals that probably have a masturbation contest and then float around in space for 90 minutes? The studio should be shot!

...I can't wait to see this movie. Hope it lives up to a fraction of the hype.

I've seen soooo many ads for this and it looks garbage to me. I don't think I can stand Sandra spinning around for an hour or so in space.

I'm not a Bullock fan at all but I think she could do alright for this. Not to put down astronauts but I'm pretty sure they're great people to see freak the fuck out in space. I think Bullock will do fine with that.

It's Cuaron, so it's gonna rock. It's a given.

I'm excited for this but I'm worried the TV spots I've been seeing lately have been way too spoilery.

This seems like one film where it might be worth the extra money to see it in IMAX 3D.

Looking forward to it. Haven't seen too many spots for it, so I don't know much. The Variety article posted in the other thread has upped my enthusiasm though.

Can't wait to find the one negative review:

"Gravity is completely weightless"

And the boxoffice report on Monday:

"Low Gravity at the boxoffice"

:D

(Of course, it could go the other way and read: "Gravity Soars" and "Gravity floats to the top")

Well, I got something. In the Science Times section of today's New York Times, there's an article on GRAVITY that tempers some high praise with the revelation of "a gaping orbital impossibility big enough to drive the Starship Enterprise through."

Here's the link:
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/01/sc...ef=todayspaper

Here's the relevant paragraph:
Spoiler:
So what’s not to like?

You knew there was a “but” coming, right? Unfortunately, with all this verisimilitude, there is a hole in the plot: a gaping orbital impossibility big enough to drive the Starship Enterprise through.

After they stop tumbling and find the shuttle destroyed and their colleagues all dead, Mr. Clooney tells Ms. Bullock that their only hope for rescue is to use his jetpack to travel to the space station, seen as a glowing light over the horizon. “It’s a long hike, but we can make it,” he says.

At this point, space fans will groan.

As we recall from bitter memory, the Hubble and the space station are in vastly different orbits. Getting from one to the other requires so much energy that not even space shuttles had enough fuel to do it. The telescope is 353 miles high, in an orbit that keeps it near the Equator; the space station is about 100 miles lower, in an orbit that takes it far north, over Russia.

I like the idea of this movie, but can't stand the stars of it.

I've been trying to read nothing about this one since seeing the trailer. Looking forward to seeing it. A lot of good movies coming out this fall.

I couldn't get this to embed, but it's David Edelsteins's great review from Sunday Morning.

Wow. This is only 90 minutes long or about 1 hour, 25 minutes of actual movie. I figured it'd roll on from 150+ minutes. Nice.

I'm actually really surprised by that. That's actually kind of amazing.

Come on now, you know that's his schtick. Does it in every thread of well regarded movies.

I'm kind of happy to hear that. I don't mind a tight, well paced movie of this sort.

Naw, 109 minutes.

Well in that case, I think you could kind of condense it by like 10 mins and you'd be good.
