Enemies Closer (D: Hyams, S: Van Damme)

New Peter Hyams flick starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as the villain:

Always fun to see Van Damme as the bad guy.

Also, Bonus JCVD clip:

It's probably just me, but I find Peter Hyams to be a completely mediocre filmmaker.

Wow, just saw the trailer and am digging it! I would not be surprised if John Hyams worked on this film as a possible stunt/fight choreographer. Some of those fights looked great.

EDIT - I was almost right - it's edited by John Hyams.

Father and son should always work together. The bland photography in Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning versus the slick photography of Universal Soldier: Regeneration (to say nothing of how the latter is a far better movie than the former) is proof of that.

Looks awesome!

Van Damme is a great dancer. He's starting to look like Julio Iglesias.

Here's the second trailer and looks like Lionsgate picked up the domestic rights:

Van Damme makes for an awesome bad guy. Still really looking forward to this. I hope it gets a theatrical release.

Re: Enemies Closer (D: Hyams, S: Van Damme)

Just had a Van Damme double feature with Welcome to the Jungle and Enemies Closer. WttJ is a C-grade movie that is elevated whenever Van Damme is onscreen. There are a few laughs without him but the film feels dead in any scene from which he is absent. It's still watchable (because of Van Damme's hilarious performance) but it could/should have been so much better. EC fares much better. Once again, Van Damme is the highlight of the picture (the man was born to play manic, scenery chewing villains) but Orlando Jones and Tom Everett Scott do a fine job of carrying the film whenever Van Damme is absent. But JCVD's manic, enviromentalist, vegan, mercenary, drug dealer was all kinds of awesome and totally steals every scene he is in. All in all, I had a great evening.

Re: Enemies Closer (D: Hyams, S: Van Damme)

Finally got around to watching this and it's a cool little action flick. The fights scenes are brutal and it was great to have Hyams/Van Damme back together again on a film.
