I also thought that too. Was pretty tame in the R violence. Even that big kill was very much off screen. Pretty controlled in it's violence. Dunno why Blomkamp decided on that considering his other films were rather blunt about it.

Chappie was the main focus. Nevermind that Yolandie also got
Nevermind that Hugh Jackman was
It definitely deserved the R rating.

Spoiler:
It was fine in terms of an R rating. People forget that profanity makes up a portion of it, too. Ninja and Yolandie were profane as fuck. I think a PG-13 version would have hindered it, IMO. Neill makes what he wants to make.

Honestly the MPAA seems to base it's ratings more on swearing and nudity/sexual content than it does on violence. Films can get away with quite a bit in terms of violence really and remain PG-13.

I found it funny and odd that one character (that was speaking English - with a thick accent) was subtitled, but alot of other scenes the dialogue was so horribly mixed that it reduced other characters delivering of lines to incoherent mumbling.
and don't get me started how Sony on the whole, has some of the worst soundmixers on the planet - 'Annie' (despite it having a lot flaws to begin with) that 5.1 mix was flat out bad. But for 'Chappie' - you'd think the studio would get into the 7.1 surround sound and /or Dolby Atmos route - they did with 'Elysium' so what the hell gives??
regardless of the film's rating I was surprised that a lot of dad's had taken their kids to this, this afternoon - eh, whatever. I think the young boys in front of me were more like "wow, like them tits, than oh "that violence and f-bombs are so whack!"

Sex is dangerous, dude. You can't have kids asking about sex. They might ask questions about something health, natural, and necessary for the propagation of the species. Violence is fine though. Violence never hurt anybody. It's OK for kids to ask about that. There isn't any negative aspect to violence.

Die Antwoord's Ninja replies to fan questions on CHAPPiE internet tabloid rumors
A very concerned fan just asked me if the weird rumours about 'my behaviour' on the CHAPPIE set are true, so i thought i'd help shed a little light here on Boing Boing. The fans' questions are in CAPS, and my answers follow.—Ninja

HAHAHA, that was great! Ninja and Yolandie are awesome.
I guess the real revelation would be about the cat that was the clan leader - dude was really loaded up on steroids huh. I didn't even recognize him but he's been in District 9 and was in Elysium.

I love the fact that after all the controversy, The Interview will be know for "They hate us 'cuz they anus", and maybe James Franco's invisible handjobs.

Apparently I'm one of the few who don't know who the fuck Die Antwoord are.
Anyway, wasn't overly impressed but by the same token, kind of a safe movie with passable entertainment. Some nice moments overshadowed by a generic story, bad dialogue and so-so performances and a mixture of tone. I got a good laugh at one of the deaths, made out to be like I should give a rat's ass about them.
Eh, not bad but incredibly forgettable.
