Top 10 Unexpected Movie Deaths

To be honest, I actually expected the deaths featured from Burn After Reading (completely telegraphed earlier in the film) and Deep Blue Sea. I actually went to see the latter hoping for the death featured since I felt the clip shown in the trailer was the perfect setup for a random death. I was not disappointed.

They forgot Rolo Tomassi. The top billed actor gets it with a half hour still remaining.
If you've seen it you know what I'm talking about.

That should have been number 1 on the list.

Re: Top 10 Unexpected Movie Deaths

By the nature of the film and cultural impact, wouldn't the Sixth Sense have to rank at #1?

While this character may have been secondary, this is still numero uno for me:

The only reason The Departed didn't surprise me is because I had seen Infernal Affairs back when it was first released.

15 Minutes.

It felt wrong, and was shocking and brutal. Well choreographed too.

Re: Top 10 Unexpected Movie Deaths

If we include foreign stuff, then John Woo's A Better Tomorrow would rank highly

As I recall, the director had to fight the studio to keep that scene the way it played out.

James Franco's death in Spring Breakers was a bit abrupt.

Indeed he did. They even shot an alternate version, which sucked ass.

Re: Top 10 Unexpected Movie Deaths

Danielle Panabaker's death in Friday the 13th 2009 was a bit of a surprise. She was the main protagonist in the film and even a love interest for Jared Padalecki's character.

The movie is 4 years old and most F13 fans probably already saw it, so I'm not spoiling it.

And doesn't the alt. ending feature him with an arm injury after clearly getting shot in the face?

I never knew they actually got to shoot an alternate version. Did William Friedkin shoot it himself or did they have to get someone else to shoot the alternate ending?

That was the only good thing about that movie. It was surprising and made it seem like everyone was expendable. But then they totally screw that up by making Jared Padalecki's character seemingly invincible.

At least they reshot where he took the shotgun hit. But, yeah, it's a horrible alternate ending.

^ Thanks for posting that. That clip sums up the first two movies that came to my mind when reading this thread title (To Live and Die in L.A. & Psycho).
