I've never seen Blackhawk Down or American Sniper.

Which really tends to upset a lot of people I know IRL.

Of that list, the only ones I HAVE seen are:
Lawrence of Arabia
Schindler's List
It Happened One Night
A Streetcar Named Desire
Amadeus
Ben-Hur
The Gold Rush
Duck Soup
Yankee Doodle Dandy

I am also missing GWTW, Lion King, and everything on Mondo Kane's list.

Okay, I've watched about 3 hours of Shoah, and then I was burnt out.
Since I posted that, I've seen:

Birth of a Nation
Mutiny on the Bounty
Gone with the Wind

A lot of them are low on the list of movies I want to see someday.

I did. I was poor, and if I was going to spend the money to rent a videotape, by gosh I was going to watch the whole thing to the end.

Re: I never saw... (Movie Edition)

It would be easier to list classic movies I HAVE seen than ones I haven't. I just don't love classic cinema. I only saw Citizen Kane a couple years ago because We Hate Movies was doing it. I only saw 12 Angry Men because it was the right length for the rest of the plane ride I was on. Here are some big ones I haven't seen (I'll also say up front I haven't seen about 90% of the Sight & Sound list
Spoiler:
Casablanca
Lawrence of Arabia

Life Is Beautiful
The Pianist
Chinatown
Raging Bull

Singin' in the Rain
Battleship Potemkin

Any version of West Side Story
Any Chaplin film besides Modern Times
Any Hitchcock film besides Vertigo (which I mostly don't remember)

The Grapes of Wrath
All About Eve
The Bridge on the River Kwai
Godfather II/III
Metropolis
Some Like it Hot

And I'm the exact opposite; I've seen most of the major classic films, but I haven't watched a lot of recent films.

I've only ever seen one MCU film (Guardians of the Galaxy), no Hobbit films, no Lord of the Rings films, only one of the Fast and the Furious films (Tokyo Drift), only one Christopher Nolan film (Memento), no Tom Cruise films after Minority Report, one Twilight film (the first one), no Harry Potter films, no Daniel Craig Bonds, no Transformers films, and no Matrix films.

I don't really do comic book and superhero movies, and I'm not terribly fond of science fiction and fantasy films. I guess that's pretty obvious by the recent films that I haven't seen.

There's something about sound in films like... pre-1970s that drives me crazy, but I don't know how to explain it. I'm assuming the technology with microphones and mixing just wasn't there yet

Re: I never saw... (Movie Edition)

The constant barrage of Marvel/superhero movies has so beaten me down that I'm actually looking forward to seeing a Top Gun sequel, and I wasn't even the biggest fan of the original.

Sounds like my dad with Back To The Future. For about 8 years he refused to watch it. I have no idea why.

Well, one Thanksgiving at my uncle's house we played a trick on him. We told him we had a great Big Band Jazz special on VHS for him to watch. (He's a HUGE Jazz fan.) We put in BTTF and forced him to watch it. (He tried to get up, but my uncle and I wouldn't let him.) In the end, he reluctantly admitted that he liked it.

Mission Accomplished.

That's interesting. But when you say drives you crazy, do you mean the sound is actually repellant to you (like nails on chalkboard) or do you just mean it sounds "phony" or artificial?

Probably a mix of the two. I also think the "silence" is different than modern films, when no one is speaking and there's no music.
