"Knowing" has got to have the most frightening plane crash ever
FX is finally taking a break from endless reruns of 'Iron Man' and 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine" to play "Knowing" and seeing it again, is that plane crash not one of the most incredible piece of filmmaking ever? From the sound of the engines failing in the background and that look of horror on the cop's face, to the camera turning and that plane coming down, to Nick running through the wreckage to get survivors, all in one continuous shot. That is film school study material.

Are we talking about the movie with Nicholas Cage? I don't remember much about it other than thinking it was shit.

Saw Knowing at the theater with my wife, liked it enough to add it to my collection. We've already watched it twice in the last few years, I know we'll watch it again. I need to pay particular attention to that plane crash.

That scene in the theater was one of the most intense and memorable scenes ever. Audibly it was up there with Jurassic Park in it's original run. Most movies are just loud to be loud, but that crash scene had so many layers to it, it was just on another level.

Anybody remember what it was like seeing Alive's crash in theaters? Plenty of jaws were dropped on that one.
And for it's time, Foreign Correspondent has quite a spectacular crash on water.

The plane crash sequence is technically well done...yet absurd. Nicholas Cage yelling "hey" at the first guy he encounters (that's on fire, freaking out & running away to die), as Cage's characters looks on indignantly wondering why the dude didn't stop to chat.
What a load of shit.
What a load of shit.

I think the most disturbing part is that shot of the survivors running from the wreckage and BOOM! Suddenly they are incinerated.
And I think it's a good movie. I liked that Proyas had the balls to pull the trigger and actually end the world.

I thought it had a lot of great ideas in there but it didn't pay off for me. I did enjoy it though. It had balls to an extent. But I didn't like it enough to ever watch again on home video.

It's got a pretty great subway crash scene, too.

Knowing had a lot going for it, some great scenes as shown here, some cool shots, a good overall concept.
Then there are just little things that fuck it up and make it lousy. I try my best to overlook them because there are still bits and pieces in here that share traits of what made The Crow and Dark City great, but ultimately shitty wins out with that atrocious ending and a few idiot choices here and there.
Proyas gets a lot out of his fairly minimal budgets (Dark City was $27m, Knowing's budget was slightly under $50m, his only "big budget" flick was I, Robot). He always seems to have great working concepts then runs them into the ground, but on the bright side at least they're generally unique flicks (I don't pin I, Robot on him).
I'm hoping his upcoming movies (The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag, Gods of Egypt) turn out well as, like his other flicks, they at least sound unique.

personally I find the airplane crash in the Jeff Bridges movie 'Fearless' to be more terrifying.
