Wizard People, Dear Reader

This past Saturday night, my kid and I settled in to watch the first Harry Potter flick (HP and the Sorceror's Stone) while playing a couple of CDs I had burned that contained the alternate "Wizard People, Dear Readers" soundtrack made by Brad Neely back in 2004. (For those unfamiliar with this, here's the Wikipedia link.)

It was gut-rippingly funny!

If you've never heard of this, or have but haven't bothered to invest the time to download/burn the audio tracks to CD and play them synched-up with your movie, I strongly recommend you go ahead and give it a try. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. The audio files are here: http://archive.org/details/wizard-people/

Note: Even though I watched it with my kid, the alternate soundtrack is R-rated. There are tons of random expetives, running-gag references to everyone at Hogwart's being an alcoholic, and lots of other adult subtexts. You might not want to screen it for your 7 year-old, wait till she goes to bed and then curl up on the couch with some cold brewskis to enjoy this masterpiece.

I am a beautiful animal! I am a destroyer of worlds! I am HARRY F***KING POTTER!

Here's how I got this to work in my setup:
- I burned the soundtrack to a pair of Audio CDs. I could've done a single MP3 CD but I wanted to maintain compatibility if I decided to take this on the road sometime.
- I streamed the movie video (I have it on Vudu) and used the BluRay player for audio.
- Since my BluRay player is also my HT's audio hub, I had to disconnect the HDMI connection between it and the HDTV, because the hub kept switching to the audio from the Vudu stream and I didn't want to dick around trying to figure out how to override it through software. Yanking the cord worked perfectly fine and took all of 2 seconds to reverse when we were done.

...and here's a review from back in 2004 when they used to do public screenings of the soundtrack before Warner's legal department figured out how to shut 'em down:

Wizard People, Dear Reader is one of the funniest things I've ever seen/heard. I fell off my couch at one point because I was laughing so hard.

the character generalization that Prof. Snape is a woman had me rolling. and yes, it's definitely R-rated in nature - the whole Quiditch game scene is littered with F-bombs.

"I will have her blood on my hands--TONIGHT!" made me laugh so hard that my sides hurt.

I also love the dreamscape asides that he goes into when the movie gets boring. So fantastic.

Enjoy the Cribbage Match:

PS - Lots of F-bombs.... borderline NSFW, though if you put your headphones on you'll be okay, assuming your boss doesn't hear your loud guffaws!

Annoying voice narrating unfunny commentary. I'll pass.

You're missing out. It's amazing. But you should listen to it all in one, not just selections.

It's okay. From that sample I can tell it's not for me.

You are dead to me. Do you hear me? DEAD!

Oh this again? Look, if this relationship is ever going to work you need to understand we won't always agree on everything. You have Yoga, I have my video games and BD's. You like sunset walks on the beach. I like to not have to listen to unfunny Harry Potter commentary tracks. It's called compromise.

Sheesh! You're just like your mother!

You can't quit me. Who else would murder all those hookers with you?

That was one time! And you swore we wouldn't talk about it after we framed Solid Snake (since he was already killing all those college skanks and stuffing them in the trunk of his 1980 Lincoln Continental)!

This is probably the point where I admit that I've been killing hookers with your twin brother when you work late.

You sonnuvabitch! Don't bother coming home tonight! I'm changing the locks!

And for the last time, he's my identical cousin! We are NOT twins, dammit!

Fine. FINE! But I'm keeping the tarantulas. You can have the tapirs, they shit all over the place anyway.

I was watching Broadchurch today, and the actor who plays Filch is in it. But when I saw him I shouted, "It's the man-servant, Dazzler!"
