Re: The Wolverine (Mangold, 2013) — The Reviews Thread

There's no hopefully for a unrated/whatever cut. Mangold has mentioned it'll come.

I'm actually kind of surprised at how much the MPAA will allow now. What's the most violent film in the PG-13 category recently?

But yeah. The villains were poor. Though I did think the actress playing Viper rocked for it, granted it was a poor role.

I still think this film would have benefited better for when Aronofsky was attached. The whole jamming in the superhero element of the film was very poor for it.

Spoiler:
Professor X can bring himself back to life after being COMPLETLY and TOTALLY eviscerated, but he still can't walk. lol.

Spoiler:
Also, for about 2 seconds I thought they recast Werner Herzog as Magneto.

That has nothing to do with his powers. He still feels pain. His healing factor heals him. It doesn't stop the sensation of pain. He's popped them out for over a hundred years. He's probably used to it.

From the first X-Men movie:

Rogue: "When they come out, does it hurt?"
Wolverine: "Every time."

While its true the healing factor doesn't stop the sensation of pain, its not something you would get used to either. The flesh and tissue always grow back and have to be re-torn every time he pops the claws. Its not like a woman's cherry that doesn't grow back. Every time your skin gets cut, no matter if its the first time or the 100th time, it still hurts like a bitch. You never get used having your flesh torn.

Yeah. But that has nothing to do with the healing factor. I'm not saying he doesn't feel it. He just wouldn't be in extreme pain from it. He's done for it a very long time. However extreme it was for him when he first popped them out is something else compared to when youve done it for over a hundred years. He's used to it. It wouldn't be extreme.

Then he should have bled out just like in the comics when he popped out his claws after Magneto ripped out the adamantium. He had no healing factor at that point.

I just learned that a J-pop song I like, "Sexy Otonajan," is used in the background in one scene. Now I need to watch the movie to see how it's used. I believe it's the first time a song from this particular J-pop organization (Hello! Project) has been used in a Hollywood movie.

we don't know how Prof X came back to life, maybe they'll have a logical explanation in the new X-Men, probably not though

They've already explained it in X-Men Last Stand.

Yeah, but that if we go with that one it makes even less sense.

Spoiler:
He jumps into another mutant's body and is somehow able to get himself looking exactly the way he did before? Complete with needing a wheelchair?

Except PG-13. Although I would have loved to see that, or at least blood trickling from his claws each time.

I believe it's in the audio commentary to X-Men: The Last Stand (or it could have been in an interview) that it's explained that the
Spoiler:
comatose patient was intended to be Xavier's twin brother. Xavier had accidentally lobotomized his brother whilst they were in their mother's womb. That's why Patrick Stewart portrayed the coma patient as well as Xavier.

However, like you, I don't understand why he's back in a wheelchair. Then again, I recall that in the comics they had cloned a new body for Xavier and for some reason he was unable to make said body walk. Perhaps they'll use whatever explanation was given in said comic book.

In the old cartoon, they explained that because of his powers, he couldn't walk. When they had their powers blocked, he could walk fine. Doesn't make sense but that is what they said.

I always remember that. Man got his powers but dead in the legs from it afterwards.

Re: The Wolverine (Mangold, 2013) — The Reviews Thread

I liked it. Much better than the Origins movie, which I only saw because I got $10 credit towards this movie (it wasn't horrible, but bad usage of Deadpool especially).

Viper didn't bother me, certainly not enough for me to be distracted. I love some of the comments about how she should have been hotter, as if you date or are married to supermodels or something.

The villain was so predictable it wasn't even funny, but still a solid movie. Why this wasn't the first Wolverine movie is beyond me, considering how much "Jean" is in this and how long it's been since The Last Stand was released.

And this epilogue at the end of The Wolverine also said "2 years later," so who knows what happened since the end of The Wolverine and the end of Last Stand.

Spoiler:
Going to be interesting to see how they bond adamantium back onto Wolvie's claws. I was surprised that they did give him the bone claws in the movie, to be true to the comic books. We all know that Wolverine is going to be beyond worthless vs sentinels in 'Days of Future Past' w/ bone claws

Didn't he have them in Origins? At least in the beginning leading up to the Weapon X experiment.

Yes, he did. Although Creed broke one set of Logan's bone claws. However, it's quite possible they grew back before the adamantium bonding process was carried out. Which means they could have Magneto
Spoiler:
take the claws that Silver Samurai cut off, extract the adamantium from them, and graft it to Logan's new claws.

Been a while since I've seen that movie, but I believe he did have them during the parts of the movie where he was a child.

I only saw it once in theaters, but remember him having them up until the experiment, even after his stint in WWII.
