Re: The Wolverine (Mangold, 2013) — The Reviews Thread
There's no hopefully for a unrated/whatever cut. Mangold has mentioned it'll come.
I'm actually kind of surprised at how much the MPAA will allow now. What's the most violent film in the PG-13 category recently?
But yeah. The villains were poor. Though I did think the actress playing Viper rocked for it, granted it was a poor role.
I still think this film would have benefited better for when Aronofsky was attached. The whole jamming in the superhero element of the film was very poor for it.

That has nothing to do with his powers. He still feels pain. His healing factor heals him. It doesn't stop the sensation of pain. He's popped them out for over a hundred years. He's probably used to it.

From the first X-Men movie:
Rogue: "When they come out, does it hurt?"
Wolverine: "Every time."
While its true the healing factor doesn't stop the sensation of pain, its not something you would get used to either. The flesh and tissue always grow back and have to be re-torn every time he pops the claws. Its not like a woman's cherry that doesn't grow back. Every time your skin gets cut, no matter if its the first time or the 100th time, it still hurts like a bitch. You never get used having your flesh torn.

Yeah. But that has nothing to do with the healing factor. I'm not saying he doesn't feel it. He just wouldn't be in extreme pain from it. He's done for it a very long time. However extreme it was for him when he first popped them out is something else compared to when youve done it for over a hundred years. He's used to it. It wouldn't be extreme.

I just learned that a J-pop song I like, "Sexy Otonajan," is used in the background in one scene. Now I need to watch the movie to see how it's used. I believe it's the first time a song from this particular J-pop organization (Hello! Project) has been used in a Hollywood movie.

Except PG-13. Although I would have loved to see that, or at least blood trickling from his claws each time.

In the old cartoon, they explained that because of his powers, he couldn't walk. When they had their powers blocked, he could walk fine. Doesn't make sense but that is what they said.

Except in the comics he got crippled while fighting some mutant that was trying to kidnap Storm when she was a little girl.

I liked it. Much better than the Origins movie, which I only saw because I got $10 credit towards this movie (it wasn't horrible, but bad usage of Deadpool especially).
Viper didn't bother me, certainly not enough for me to be distracted. I love some of the comments about how she should have been hotter, as if you date or are married to supermodels or something.
The villain was so predictable it wasn't even funny, but still a solid movie. Why this wasn't the first Wolverine movie is beyond me, considering how much "Jean" is in this and how long it's been since The Last Stand was released.

And this epilogue at the end of The Wolverine also said "2 years later," so who knows what happened since the end of The Wolverine and the end of Last Stand.
