I agree with Osiris, it's a solid movie. It's not as scary as the first but it does have some solid popcorn horror moments. I found myself laughing a lot more than I did at the first, I don't think it's a fault per se, just a result of some of the ghostly shenanigans. There is one scene fairly early on that was super creepy, the rest of the movie had a hard time living up to it.

Yep. I've never wanted to be young Norman Bates so much in my life...I totally get his Oedipus complex now.

I haven't seen the second so this only pertains to the first. Farmiga being psychic added a nice touch to the film, but Wilson was complete and utter dead weight. What do you think he added to the film?

Speaking for myself, Wilson always comes across as a very convincing everyman to me. He's subtle enough that I can see why some might find him bland, but I appreciate that he's not showy. And that he's good looking without being a cookie-cutter Hollywood hunk.

Seeing this tomorrow or the day after. It's a long one - 2hrs and 14mins.

I saw that runtime and was a bit taken aback by it. Pretty rare to see a horror flick go that long. I'm looking really forward to seeing it tomorrow.

I'll be going to a Sunday matinee this weekend. I usually don't purchase the overpriced concessions but will do so this time for a full treat. After an overly stressful/long week of work, I'm really looking forward to this.

The best way to decompress, IMO. Have fun!

I'm looking forward to this one but 2hrs and 14 min?! Yeesh, hopefully the movie doesn't overstay its welcome.

Re: The Conjuring 2 (2016, D: James Wan) S: Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga

I thought it was just great. I saw it with a crowd, and they were all into it... with laughing, screaming, face covering, just an all around good time. I do not think it overstayed its welcome, no one ever seemed to lose the fun and excitement. We were having a good time until the closing credits.

Wan has some really great shots here. He seemed to be having a good time shooting the film, and I think it came through in the final product.

On another note, everyone has a thing for Vera Farmiga.

Correct.

The wife and I saw this earlier this morning. I liked it a lot. The long run-time didn't feel that long. I might have even enjoyed this one more than the original.

Pretty much how I felt. I was worried about the run time, but it went by fast. I thought the first had more jump scares, but I thought this was the better film.

Sex appeal not withstanding (and certainly not denied), she's a marvelous actress who sell even the most overripe dialogue here. She's superb.

This was way too long. Way too long. As usual with Wan, it's an assembly line of horror tropes and some rather clunky dialogue dressed up with his immense style and flair. The jump scares get a little old and the plot is nonsense, but it's sure fun to watch. Special props to Dan Burgess' cinematography. The digital camera work was terrific-kinetic, slick, smooth, and beautifully precise.

I loved it - Wan's masterpiece. It is him at the top of his game playing in a funhouse - loved the plot, the camera work was next level and great acting, especially Janet. I almost never get spooked by jump scares but there were 3 here that worked very well, even when I was expecting something, they found a way to surprise. The crooked man was awesome and the scene with the painting in the study was a blast...just ratcheting up the tension. I absolutely loved the single take of Wilson on the left of frame with Janet on the right, playing with depth of field so she was out of focus as they communicated with Bill... I loved the first one but this was better in every way. Hope it does well so we get a third, this is a great series.

I really dug it. James Wan has built up a pretty good standing as a horror director. Shit even Dead Silence I liked.

Torn on whether or not to see this one. I wasn't really that impressed with the first.

Saw this yesterday, enjoyed it but not quite as much as the first film.

I thought the cast was absolutely fantastic and I loved the set design. Some of the plot points were a bit silly and many times the sloppy CG work took me out of a lot of scenes.

Re: The Conjuring 2 (2016, D: James Wan) S: Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga

Saw it. I think I actually enjoyed this one more than the first, but I haven't seen the first since it was in theaters three years ago, so I my memory may be a bit rusty. Wan really knows how to build suspense and create creepy visuals, but the real driving force behind these movies are the performances by the actors. This is where this franchise succeeds where others in horror fall short IMO. I actually give a damn about what happens to Ed , Larraine, and whomever they are trying to help (if the young actress who played Janet can keep herself straight , she'll go far). So many others, particularly teen slasher remakes, give us characters so annoying you just want them killed ASAP (maybe that's intentional). I give it 3 out of 5 stars. Enjoyed it, but they could have easily trimmed ten to twenty minutes.

Also,
Spoiler:
I will admit to getting a kick out of Ed's Elvis bit. Wilson's Broadway background served him well.
