Great review thread as always Oldboy. Stellar work.

Thought the first movie was just okay, not really interested in seeing this unless the reviews or word of mouth are off the charts.

Although I plan on eventually seeing this, I think it would benefit better as a Fall release as the first one. It doesn't scream summer movie to me.

I loved the first Red so I'm hoping this one is as good as that one.

I agree with this. It falls into the "lite" action movie category, just like the first one.

Pretty excited about this one. RED was a lot of fun in my opinion and this looks like it should be good too. I do agree that I think it would have done better if it was released in the fall rather than the summer but who knows maybe it'll do okay.

Yep we liked the first one and the wife is eager to see this one. Helen Mirren was by far my favorite character in the first one. Malkovich close behind with his complete insane paranoid personality.

Fun stuff.

very so-so. kinda disappointing. they went with the montage of bigger is better...not necessarily. a couple laughs. not a lot of action. could've used a bigger fight scene with Byung-hun Lee. Willis phoned it in. MLP and Malkovich took the show. the rest were forgettable, especially, Zeta-Jones.

Wife and I enjoyed Red quite a bit and looked forward to watching Red 2. Caught this afternoon and we were not disappointed. Our theater was packed, and it was an interesting mix for sure.

Lots of chuckles and a few good laughs throughout.
Spoiler:
Loved the return of Ivan, especially the sniper scene, hilarious!

I really liked it, maybe even slightly more than the first one. The whole cast seemed to be having a good time and Willis seemed way more into this than he did in A Good Day to Die Hard in which he essentially seemed like he was phoning in his performance. Malkovich was great again too with some good one liners and Mary Louise Parker was looking hot as ever. Hopkins was a good villain too.

Re: Red 2 (Parisot, 2013) — The Reviews Thread

A follow-up from "Red", "Red 2" doesn't feel too fresh, but given the geriatric headliners, maybe that was the point. "RED" stands for Retired, Extremely Deadly, the classification for retired CIA hitmen and agents who are hard to put down when necessary.

Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) is one such entity, as is his buddy Marvin (John Malkovich). Frank's girlfriend Sarah (Mary-Louise Parker) is bored as Frank tries to live the quiet life with her, but things perk up when Frank and Marvin get implicated with a cold war op named "Nightshade" and their lives go back to spy-ops as they try to stay alive with hitmen sent to collect them.

Maybe if the film was a little more tongue-in-cheek, I'd enjoy it more. As-is, it was a little too safe, a little too predictable. But it fills that "old man in action film" niche well enough.

I give it 2 stars, or a grade of C.

I'm kind of surprised the first film hasn't come back to Redbox to coincide with this.

I hope Dean Parisot's next project is Bill & Ted 3--which was rumored in several sources last year.

Re: Red 2 (Parisot, 2013) — The Reviews Thread

Just rented the BD today and finished it moments ago.

I gave it 3 out of 5 stars. It was just okay. It didn't feel very fresh. There are better ensemble action flicks out there. I just don't think the actors were very passionate about this project. It was just a payday for everyone, especially Willis and it showed in the performances. Willis did have a little more life in him here than he did in A Good Day to Die Hard. I think I was really turned off at how much of a dick Willis seemed when promoting this movie in interviews and EPKs. Some decent action and stunt choreography, but nothing really memorable. I did like Byung-hun Lee. His martial arts moves were cool and he was funny at times.

Just wrapped this one up and it was okay. The first one was better but this one had a few good moments. It was good to see David Thewlis in something. Helen Mirren is still fine as fuck and Byung-hun Lee kicked all sorts of ass. The audio is DEMO-worthy, too.

Re: Red 2 (Parisot, 2013) — The Reviews Thread

Not as good as the first one, but still very enjoyable. Willis seemed fine to me, its just that he was not as central in the movie as the first one. Mirren was awesome. Zeta-Jones had a forgettable part.
