This is going to be a great date movie...the best movie about marriage since WAR OF THE ROSES.

one of the 5/5 reviews states "The stealthiest comedy since American Psycho" which has me even more intrigued Fincher is great with subtle comedy (Fight Club, Social Network)

In the book, Affleck's character is completely self-aware of what a dick he is... perhaps that's where the subtle humor may come from.

Man, that EW review has me so excited. Sounds like it's just what I was hoping it would be. The reviewer calls it a better version of The Game, which would be amazing in my book. I'm so in. Seeing it opening day.

The entire book is aware of its comical nature as well. Very sardonic in tone.

I've said before I do not really like this book aside from the act two twist and it is getting too much praise as a work of art when, in reality, it's just a trashy 'fun' novel.

That is why I was shocked that Fincher got attached. This is the antithesis of Dragon Tattoo. This has the potential to be one of those 'better than the book' movies.

I wouldn't be surprised at all, i'm fully aware of how critical people are. I'm just saying he's already carried well received movies recently so I don't get the "fully come around" line.

No matter how you feel about his acting, you have to give him props for finally landing the leading part in a major motion picture.

Obviously his directing has been excellent, but I don't recall any negatives about his acting and again, carried both of those movies fairly well.

I am curious as to how this movie handles some of the aspects of the book.

Spoiler:
Will they even include the mini-story of Amy faking her death and her time in the little rural area?

I'm VERY excited for this. I'm wondering what the box office projections are, especially with Annabelle coming out. I've talked to a few horror fans and they are more excited for this film than Annabelle. I'm always very interested to see how much time NPH has in this film. I don't really remember him having a serious role in quite some time on the big screen.

I'm sure they will on the first item you mentioned as it's the whole point of the story, however, I hope they do not include the second part of your comment as that was easily the dumbest thing I read in years. Truly a horrible subplot.

Spoiler:
She sets up this super elaborate fake death and then she is duped by a couple of rednecks? Huge eyerolll on that.

Yup, Greta and Jeff are listed as characters in the IMDB page.

Spoiler:
In regards to getting duped, I didn't eyeroll that. Amy's a schemer, but not a survivor. She planned as best she could but didn't count on needing other people's contact for attention and interaction. She let her guard down briefly. She was always spoiled and it didn't occer to her how dangerous that was. She was so focused on protecting her real identity that it never occurred to her that she might be a target for a simple mugging. I've got no problem with that.
The ending of the book is far harder for me to accept than the Ozark Amy subplot

Re: Gone Girl (2014) (D: Fincher; S: Affleck, Pike, Perry, Harris, Dickens)

Watched it last night and kept thinking how much Affleck looked like Scott Peterson, in addition to the front side of the story essentially playing out like a Lacy Peterson-wife goes missing with guilty looking husband getting pummeled in the press.

I've enjoyed Fincher's films very much and this one did not disappoint. Thought the acting was very good all around. And oh yeah, the soundtrack rocked, particularly when
Spoiler:
Amy and Desi are in bed getting it on. The build-up to Desi getting his throat slit was mesmerizing.

Re: Gone Girl (2014) (D: Fincher; S: Affleck, Pike, Perry, Harris, Dickens)

This was a pretty good movie. I hadn't read the book and expected a little more thriller elements, but once I got used to the pacing, I was pretty invested. I usually don't care for Ben Affleck, but he was okay in this. Not great, but good enough. On the other hand, Rosamund Pike was excellent, as was (shockingly) Tyler Perry.
