Still, if I had to watch one or the other I'd watch the version with the restored color.

Ideally, the look of the movie would be somewhere in between the two. Snyder went too far in desaturating the color, and the enhanced color version went and added a little too much color.
Still, if I had to watch one or the other I'd watch the version with the restored color.

Of course, the movie itself is still very flawed. The chance to make the ultimate Superman movie was blown. An overly dark, somber first 2/3 and an overly, obnoxiously, loud last 1/3 really make for a mediocre movie.
The concept was there. The characters were there. The script and direction just missed the mark.

The video w/ the BS restored color looks like a generic instagram filter.

So you're totally on board with the Star Wars: Special Super Re-mix-mastered Uber Editions..."Now with moar Hayden Christensen" instead of the OT? I mean, director's vision and all.

I still would rather take Snyder's look than the crap "restored colors" which is just BS cuz they look worse just from a tech point.

As much as I think that the film looks a lot better with the restored colors rather than the weird filter Snyder chose to use I do agree that it isn't necessarily right to change it. I'd be okay if a new edition were to come out featuring the restored colors which also featured the original version shown in theaters.

Well for starters a de-saturated color palette doesn't bother me that much. The reason why that look became a popular instagram filter is because it became a popular technique in professional photography. It's a perfectly cromulent technique in film making, and I think it fits the tone of the picture. Would you guys be okay 'colorizing' some of your favorite comic books? Not all of them are as bright and vibrant as what's seen in the youtube video above, some are black-and-white, many are older comics are limited by the types of paper they were printed on. Man of Steel actually has some issues, but this is just subjective, there's nothing wrong with the look of the film.

As for the 'color matches the tone of the film' angle... how the hell did Hollywood manage to make dramas for a half a century before desaturating them?

I think you can have Superman in full color and have a dramatic and or somber film. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Not exactly:
They didn't have the technology until recently. I promise you some of your favorite classic films would look different if they had access to today's techniques.

Finally watched this. Wish I hadn't. What a mess. Doesn't give me confidence for the upcoming Batman film.

I actually didn't think Green Lantern and Daredevil were as bad as most people were saying yet I thought this was terrible. In other words its gotta be pretty bad for me not to like it.

Jesus. GL was hitting every cliche in the most mediocre fashion. It's the text of hitting what one would expect out of a superhero film.. in a mediocre form.

Finally checked out the Agent 9 cut last night. The re-coloring alone is well worth checking out. I mean Superman actually wears red and blue now! Well, for the most part, some scenes were still the darker colors. Amazing how that one little change affects your feelings toward the character and film.
First, the title sequence was unnecessary. 1970's graphics is not in any way integral to the character. That seemed more like an exercise in graphic design.
The re-cutting was also interesting. Shaving down Krypton was more than welcome. Made for some much needed tighter pacing. Also making the "Deadliest Catch" and young Clark stuff flashback material was inspired but losing the oil rig scene sucked. Losing Jonathan's death was a plus. The final battle was still pretty long but seemed trimmed a bit which was good.
Dropping the entire score in favor of Williams' work was a mixed bag. I had higher hopes than the outcome. I assumed it would have been a blended score. The main theme will always work in the right spot(which was used sparingly), but the more nuanced Williams pieces don't quite work with Snyder's style.
