With Mel Gibson? I disagree. The "Straight Up" Edition is what was supposed to come out originally until studio decided otherwise. Now it's even more raw and violent. I can never watch the theatrical edition of Payback again. Even the color palette of the straight up edition gives it a more noir-ish look.

JFK. The majority of the re-inserted scenes don't hurt the film. However, there's a new scene where Kevin Costner mentions "our friend, Clay Shaw" before Clay Shaw is introduced to Costner and Co. in the story. That's just sloppy.
Unfortunately, the theatrical cut has never been released on DVD or Blu ray. However, you *can* get it off iTunes. Go figure.

Be grateful for studio interference with the director's vision, or that's all we would have ever had. Jesus, I'm still pissed that DC exists, and that people watch it and think that is what the Warriors is when I talk about the movie.

I'm not all that frustrated that that version of the film exists, but I am extremely annoyed that he Lucased it and won't release the original. I didn't even know about it, and my friend rented the DC and couldn't get past that stuff.

And now Blatty released a "director's cut" cut of his book, which adds dialogue and a new dream sequence. I read it last year and thought it was great.

I don't like the director's cut of Tombstone. The film was perfect as it was but with the DC
Aliens DC, despite the Hadley's Hope scene, which I always skip, is better with the added Ripley backstory.
T2 DC is not better. The only good addition was the exceptionally good scene of John and Sarah reprogramming the T-800. It made sense that Sarah would want to destroy the terminator after what she went through. It was also a much better explanation of the T-800's personality.

I wouldn't classify it as an Extended Cut. It's the TV version, meaning certain things were cut out that would be deemed "inappropriate" for television so alternate scenes were shot and extra scenes added to pad run time. A lot of films from the 80s and 90s are guilty of this.
