A friend of mine saw it, and said it was 94% awesome. His issues were with Amy Adams as Lois Lane (something I doubt will be a problem for me, as I love Amy Adams), and he said the climax got a little too over the top. Other than that, he was very enthusiastic.

Have you seen any of the released footage? There's currently 13 tv spots and 2 new trailers in the last 2 weeks. If you're trying to be spoiler free, I would just say don't listen to these people.

If you don't mind seeing some footage, I would suggest watching the Nokia trailer. It should be on the last page of the pre-release discussion thread.

I really don't see how anybody can say those 3 things if they have seen the movie. We've been shown a lot of action--hardly any of it boring--good characterization and a dose of humor here and there. And all these from what is roughly 10-15 minutes of footage overall.

You can't tell what a 2+ hour movie is going to be like from 10-15 minutes of footage. I'm just repeating what was said to me. He said it "looks" great, but it's yet another rehash of the origin, and a deadly serious one at that. "Trying to be Batman Begins" is his direct quote - "trying" being the operative word. And Superman Returns had action in it, and it was still boring as shit.

I seriously doubt that all the unique footage from all the trailers and TV spots adds up to 10 minutes of footage. The scene with Supe and Lois in the interrogation room lasts all of a few seconds. Still so much to this film that hasn't been seen or will change with seeing it in context that I don't mind spoiling myself with all these commercials and trailers.

Yeah, another observation that I wanted to make based on the trailers (I stopped watching after the "You are not alone" one), is that you ain't seen nothin' yet.

Although I would stay the hell away from that Leno footage if possible.

Bluetoast:

S.A.T. Analogy:

Man of Steel is to Superman Returns, as Batman Begins is to Batman and Robin?

^Ya know, as terribly disappointing SUPERMAN RETURNS was, it definitely was no BATMAN AND ROBIN by any stretch.

Definately agree with you there, Hokeyboy. I have a felling we are gonna get a bunch of hyperbole once this film opens, if not already based on trailer, commercial, or Leno footage. Peeps just gotta reel in their expectations a bit.

BTW, to the few who have seen it: do we know all the beats to this film due to the footage already revealed or are there surprises left? Enquiring mind wanna know. ("I wanna know.")

Well from the trailer we still don't know wtf happens to Zod's army, the big ass machine, his proper introduction to the world w/ the suit, and some minor stuff from what I got in the trailers.

Having seen it, there is a ton that you haven't seen (as mentioned in my above post). Though I would rather they not have released that Leno footage, that was fucking stupid to show so much, but I saw it before that was out.

Re: Man of Steel - The Reviews Thread

Just got back from a free military screening. Completely full house (750+ sailors, soldiers, retirees and families).
Completely different from any other Superman film I have ever seen. In fact, the word "superman" is only said once in the entire film.
All growing up Smallville stuff was flashback.
The Krypton stuff was incredible, although the plan Zod has for Earth was lifted almost directly from "Smallville" though done WAY better.
Loved the fact they did not play the whole glasses on/Lois stupid thing at all. In fact, you will be extremely surprised at how many people know or figure things out as the movie progresses.
NO slow-motion or bullet-time when the super folk are fighting. In 3D, it was dizzyingly exhilarating.
Oh, and when super folk fight, there is incredible amount of damage.
I have no problem with Adams' Lois.
The tornado scene, although we see it coming a mile away, is heart-breaking.
There were several scenes of applause and cheers at our screen, with the biggest coming at the climactic showdown between Zod and Clark.

I am ready to see it again.

That kind of bothers me (it seems to be a problem with all Nolan "superhero" films). Does he have some phobia against calling them by the names we have all known for more than half a century?

Starting to verge into spoiler territory here. Fortunately I bailed on Smallville after the second season so I still don't know what you're talking about.

I will say that Smallvillle, in the short time I could stand watching it, introduced several very thoughtful, fresh concepts in regards to this characters mythos...and then proceeded to botch the execution of every single one of them. I have absolutely no problem with someone like Goyer coming along and picking and choosing good ideas if he can find the proper way to pay them off or carry them forward.

An over the top climax, Superman movies have never tried that, no way.

I'm watching the original first two this weekend and have tos ay, while I love Amy Adams, she's too cute for Lois. If that's what they're going for, then I'm sure they'll succeed. However, if they wanted someone to capture the spunk and feisty nature or Margot Kidder's version, Rashida Jones was the best choice they could have made.

Is it a problem? I recall Batman being called Batman quite a bit in the movies.

I can only imagine how much the internet would've lost their minds if they had made Lois black.
