I think it is because people who like Star Trek have trouble finding dates or friends to go to the movies with. (settle down Trekkies/Trekkers, I'm just kidding!)

Um, no, it's actually not right at all. Lifelong Trekkie here, happily married with three kids, who all grew up to be Trekkies (two boys and a girl), and all of them also are happily married. Guess that kinda disproves the "Trekkie theorem", doesn't it?

It's the largest non-Twilight opening ever for a Summit release, and it beat a Will Smith Summer tentpole. They've got to be thrilled.

That seems pretty impressive for Now You See Me, I never even heard of it until maybe a week or two before release and all of a sudden there were a ton of ads for it that made it look kind of interesting.

Now You See Me has been trailered to death for months, and its debut attachment to the last Twilight gave it a lot of exposure and recognition. Plus, it's a PG13 flick that isn't sci-fi, so good counterprogramming, and it doesn't have a kid as the lead, so it made for a good date flick.

Weird, maybe I just haven't been paying attention. I honestly hadn't heard of it but have been seeing trailers non-stop recently, with the trailer playing in front of recent movies like Fast and Furious 6. Well, that and I don't watch Twilight.

When I saw Now You See Me last Thursday night it was relegated to theater #8 at my local theater while After Earth was in #1 playing on the IMAX screen. I walked passed After Earth's midnight screening and it looked virtually empty.

I also didn't hear of Now You See Me until the post on this forum, still haven't seen much advertising for it.

I didn't even know it was a MNS film until very late. But I already knew it was going suck big time. After watching the trailers and Will and son on the talk show circuit. So W&S are the main reason the film is bad. I'll grudgingly have to give MNS a pass on this film.

I think Will's done a good job not putting him in every movie under the sun. He could have easily done that after Karate Kid became such a hit.

I think it has more to do with him taking lead on big projects when it's so incredibly unearned. You have some actors like Chloe Grace Moretz and Hailee Steinfeld (who strangely still only has 1 movie out, but 10 in production) that at least earn their leading roles, then you have the Smith kids.

He says "Welcome to Earth" in the movie. He does not slur the word. The source of this meme remains a mystery to me.
WHY??
I'd assume they've signed on for three, there's no way Abrams will have enough time on his hands to direct the third though. The man must not sleep.
Whatever you think of the evangelicalism in Signs, I think that stylistically, it's kind of cool. Night's camera trick and set pieces in it are sort of fun. His career has crashed and burned since then though.
I have no comment at this time.
Insert The Big Bang Theory joke here.

I never heard of NOW YOU SEE ME until I saw the newspaper ads. I first confused it with Alain Resnais' new film, YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHIN' YET, but then I saw all these annoying American actors listed in the ad (Mark Ruffalo and I forget the rest), so I knew it wasn't the French film. I still haven't seen a trailer for it, nor do I recall what it's about from reading the reviews on Friday. So it getting the #2 slot for the weekend is quite a surprise to me.

Well, Leonard got Penny, didn't he? Of course, we won't mention Amy Farrah Fowler.

Funny now that I think about it, but NEMESIS was the only Trek film I never saw in theaters when it was first released. TNG films never really resonated with me all that much; I never saw one that I enjoyed more than the better TNG episodes.

Though I think This Is The End will destroy The Internship on its own.
