Does Dark City deserve a sequel?

I was always curious what happened afterwards. Humans living in a corner of space happily ever after? While those aliens are still alive but powerless.

Does this movie deserve a sequel? Or just leave it as is?

Leave it as it is.

Re: Does Dark City deserve a sequel?

No. It had a perfect open ending that doesn't need to be addressed. It's best to leave it as is.

It already gave us too much info.

Re: Does Dark City deserve a sequel?

No way, it told a complete story with just enough of an open ending where you could fill in the details if you wanted. If a sequel ever happens I would liken it to The Matrix and its sequels. The first was a great stand alone film and the sequels regrettably tarnished some of its reputation.

Is the director's cut any good? What's different?

RichC2 05-30-13 10:18 PM

Re: Does Dark City deserve a sequel?

No intro from the doctor explaining what the strangers are
Much longer shots, no rapid fire editing
Less DBZ at the end

It feels like a completely different movie despite being essentially the same, also more focus on John's relationship with Emma

It's done. Finished. A sequel would be pointless, unless they went all Xenocide.

Re: Does Dark City deserve a sequel?

I'd say no more than 3 sequels and 2 prequels. Anything else would be overkill.

If they do, they better have a followup to Gattaca--the possibilities are endless...

Re: Does Dark City deserve a sequel?

No, I'd like it if some more movies just told their story in one and were done. It's perfect as it is. Compare it to the Matrix whose stock has only gone down since it came out, and a large reason for that is crappy sequels and product.

It deserves to not have a sequel.

Deserve? Sure, more than other movies.

Does it need one? Hell no. Let the story grow in your own head, and interpretations and ideas with it. We don't need a sequel imposing more rules to create challenges for our hero, nor do we need to close off opportunities for interpretation from the first film. Learn from The Matrix Reloaded's mistakes.

Fuck you and your mum if you think this needs a sequel.

Don't you mean 3 prequels and 2 sequels? -wink-

No. And not because I think the original should stand on its own. I've seen Dark City once and was not impressed, to say the least. I thought I was watching a Saturday/Sunday afternoon TV movie on the WB or UPN. Didn't grab me at all.

This has to be the worst way to watch this movie. In a darkened room with great sound is the way to experience this. Or the best way is in the theater. One of the best sci-fi movies there is. No sequel needed.

Enjoyable underated movie. No need for a continuation.

Oh and yeah, one of my favorite movies. I won't lie, I'd watch a sequel if it kept the atmosphere, but I have no interest in seeing the place "progress and thrive".

How was that even watchable? The movie has a constant build and atmosphere, commercial breaks and censorship seem like it'd completely wreck that.

He didn't say he watched it on TV, I think he was just comparing it to something he'd see on one of those stations on a Saturday.

Does it deserve a sequel? Sure.

Should there be a sequel? No.
