Universal plans to reboot Timecop
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hea...-reboot-533478
Universal is throwing into development a remake of Timecop, the 1994 Jean-Claude Van Damme time travel action movie. Marc Shmuger will produce the film via his Universal-based Global Produce banner alongside Tom McNulty. Timecop, a Universal library title, was set in the near future where time travel is regulated by a police force. One officer (Van Damme) runs afoul a crooked politician (played by Ron Silver) using time travel to further his political career. It was based on a story published by Dark Horse Comics (the movie’s script was co-written by Dark Horse publisher Mike Richardson) and was one of Van Damme’s most successful films, both financially and critically. Timecop also proved to be a mini-franchise for the studio, spawning a short-lived 1997 TV series on ABC and a direct-to-DVD sequel with an all-new cast. The studio is approaching the new Timecop as a reboot and a re-imagining of the concept and is out to writers. Van Damme is not involved. Global Produce is behind We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks, the documentary which Universal specialty arm Focus Features opens May 24. The story says that no writer has been hired yet. This will be in development hell for a few years. |
Re: Universal plans to reboot Timecop
The original was kind of an ambitious piece of shit. Might as well...

Re: Universal plans to reboot Timecop
Van Damme cried when he heard of a Bloodsport reboot without him. He will probably cry again after hearing this.
I'm a huge van damme fan but timecop was a movie I didn't really much cared for. |
Re: Universal plans to reboot Timecop
Mia Sara was pretty hot though.
Wonder what happened to her. |

Re: Universal plans to reboot Timecop
This came out of nowhere, how about a reboot of Sudden Death as well.

Re: Universal plans to reboot Timecop
I like Timecop but I'm cool with a reboot. There's so much potential with the idea that didn't really get touched on with the Van Damme. As long as there's a scene with the hero doing the splits in his underwear. It just wouldn't be Timecop without that scene.

Re: Universal plans to reboot Timecop
All I remember from the original is him doing the splits on a kitchen counter or something. That and he had a furious mullet.

She played the role of Dr. Harleen Quinzel in "Birds of Prey", and is also known for the pilot episode of "Time Trax". Her most recent IMDB credit is from 2012, for "Dorothy and the Witches in Oz".

I still think about that movie whenever someone in any other time travel movie touches their past or future selves. It always takes me a moment to remember that they aren't going to implode.

Re: Universal plans to reboot Timecop
of course they do.

Re: Universal plans to reboot Timecop
It was incredibly stupid and forgettable yet I remember watching it quite a few times and sort of enjoying it. Ron Silver was the villain as I recall.
But does it count as a reboot when there was only one movie? Oh and... <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/3hiYzNnj3mY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> EDIT: I forgot the first fight also featured a split. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/QsckN7JLdC0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> And here's the kitchen fight in all its cheesy glory. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/6ooKKdD2WEg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Re: Universal plans to reboot Timecop
I think Timecop would actually work better as a TV show than a movie, think Sliders.

Re: Universal plans to reboot Timecop
I totally forgot about the sequel and TV series despite, as I know recall, having watched both.

Re: Universal plans to reboot Timecop
The scene where the guy mows down the soliders with a submachine gun is awesome. I've always wondered why more movies don't use this concept for a whole film. I know it's been done with the Crichton book I can't remember (TIMELINE! Got it) but for example, I read a great series called Destroyermen that is about a sub that gets transported to a primitive world and ends up helping one faction defeat another.
Anyway, yes, another Timecop is fine with me too. |
