This was added to Netflix streaming today.
Still one of my favorites from 2014.

Easier than just walking to where your BD is and putting it in your player?

I don't know why this didn't at least get a best original screenplay nomination.

Saw this for the third time when it popped up on Netflix. It's just a plain 'ol good movie. Plus...food... I want one of those grilled cheeses he made for his son.

wow, I thought this movie was terrible, just awful all around. the story was just preposterous... the food shots were good I guess, but I could get that from watching the FoodNetwork... and that sickening happy ending... I guess ScarJo's character really meant nothing to him, eh?

I enjoyed it. But you know it's a movie when Favreau bangs both Vergara and Johansson.

I thought this was decent overall, but the very end felt tacked-on and completely unearned.

Just caught this on Netflix last week as well. It's funny... I have a feeling if I had read this script I probably wouldn't have thought very highly of it, but as a film I really enjoyed it. The actors and direction make this somewhat flat, oddly paced story work.

Fans of this movie need to check out The Chef Show that just dropped on Netflix today. https://forum.dvdtalk.com/tv-talk/64...-6-7-19-a.html

As I said 4 years ago. Great, fun, light great hearted, genuine acting where make it seem like they’re not acting at all. Awesome cast.

I didn't hate this, but what a big, fat dissapointment. How stupid could these characters possibly be? Dustin Hoffman is the most brain dead restaurant manager in history. "That critic didn't like the menu. Let's invite him back and make sure we serve the same old thing. That'll fix it." And what kind of asshole doesn't ever, ever, EVER want to change the menu?
Favreau quits in disgust, and then, on the same night the critic is eating at the restaurant again, he makes the meal he wanted to make all along. AT HOME. FOR NO ONE. I thought it was incredibly obvious that he should invite the critic to his house for dinner, or pack it up and bring the food to the restaurant. Oh, no. That's not stupid enough. He goes to the restaurant and yells at the critic. Just yells. Nothing more interesting than that. Nobody throws a punch? Not once?
During the course of these stylized, reality-hightened entertainments we call motion pictures, it might be kind of amusing to see someone punch out a critic, and the critic punch back. But, no. Chef is agressively unambitious when it comes to "things happening."
At one point dad and son are cleaning the truck and the son refuses to clear the grease trap. And weakling dad apologizes. You're the parent. He's the child. Make him do it, you fucking coward. Or make it fun and have them get into a grease fight. But again, no. That would be something vaguely interesting happening. Can't have that.
I didn't believe John Leguizamo just quitting his job to follow someone else's dream. If he's so adventerous, why didn't he quit that tired-menu restaurant years ago? And why does Scarlett Johansson have eight minutes of screen time? Why cast a big movie star if you won't do anything with them? And if Favreau is going to leave her to go back to his ex, why not have some fucking conflict about it?
I don't think Favreau planned to rip off the ending from Ratatouille. But at some point during production, someone, anyone, should have told him that that ending was already used in a major movie just five years ago.
Also, that grilled cheese sandwich was disgiusting. How the fuck can you eat it when the cheese is dripping down your hand? Having more of the tastiest thing in a sandwich doesn't make the sandwich better. A balance of ingredients is best.
I like Jon Favreau. I even watched the almost completely terrible Couples Retreat just because he wrote it. At least that movie had Kristen Bell in a bikini. Chef has Fucking Nothing and it's so proud of itself for it.
(On second thought, maybe I did hate this movie.)

Yup. Went in thinking I'd enjoy the hell out of this movie. Finished the movie extremely disappointed and cursed the director (who I usually like) for using his muscle in the Industry for getting this crap made.
dex14 wondered why this didn't get nominated for "Best Original Screenplay." Was he being facetious?
