That proves it's been too long since I've seen that movie. I don't even remember her in it.

She was the doctor that discovered Ford saving the kid in the hospital. She wasn't billed in anything until Short Cuts and they bill everyone in Altman films.

She was billed fairly high IIRC (something like 4th or 5th in the opening credits).

Re: Highly billed parts that are merely glorified cameos

I'll throw out Danny DeVito who somehow got fifth billing in Mars Attacks and only appears in it (and does hardly anything) for about five minutes.

Vincent D'Onofrio gets a pretty high billing for Ed Wood despite only being in one scene and having his voice dubbed over.

And it was more of the way it was marketed, but Milla Jovovich was treated as one of the stars of Dazed and Confused when she had few lines and was mostly just reacting to other people.

Van Damme and Lundgren in Universal Soldier Day of Reckoning. Scott Adkins was the actual star.

I can't really see that. Mars Attacks! was billed as a huge star-studded film because of the nature of the movie itself, but all of the stars had a pretty small role. I went in to the theaters with that impression.

Re: Highly billed parts that are merely glorified cameos

I watched Code 46 last night and Archie Punjabi's name jumped out at me in the opening credits because I recognize her from The Good Wife. Kept watching and watching waiting for her, she finally shows up in an airport unnamed and speaks about 4 lines in her 30 seconds of screen time.
Looked on imdb after and she was "named" check in.

Definitely!

Not only was Judi Dench's role in "Shakespeare in Love" little more a glorified cameo (about 8 minutes of screentime total), but she somehow won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for it too!

I have to admit, the latter one was a big reason why I gave that movie a try in the first place; very disappointed when he never shows up later in the film.
