Hot Tub Time Machine 2 (D: Pink; S: Corddry, Robinson, Duke, Scott)
"Parks and Recreation" star Adam Scott is about to put on his swimsuit, as he's in early negotiations to dive into MGM's "Hot Tub Time Machine 2," TheWrap has learned.
Director Steve Pink and original cast members Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry and Clark Duke are nearing deals to return for the sequel to the hit 2010 comedy, though John Cusack won't be time traveling with them this time.
Should a deal make, Scott would play an entirely new leading man, according to an individual familiar with the project.
A love letter to the teen comedies of the 1980s, the original "Hot Tub Time Machine" followed four men who use a magical hot tub to travel back in time to a fateful night from their teenage years in the '80s. The film was a modest hit for MGM, grossing $50 million in the U.S. and performing very well on home video.
Scott has been incredibly busy recently, with starring roles in the well-received Sundance comedy "A.C.O.D." and Ben Stiller's "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty," which Fox opens on Christmas Day. In addition to starring on NBC's "Parks and Recreation" and the popular web series "Burning Love," Scott and wife Naomi Scott are co-creators and executive producers of parody series "The Greatest Event in Television History." Scott will be joined in the sequel by Amy Poehler and Horatio Sanz, and it will air on Adult Swim on June 6.
Scott is repped by WME, Untitled Entertainment and attorney Wendy Heller.

No Cusack makes this sound like a direct-to-video release.

I really like the first one. Not a classic by any means, but it's funny and a good background movie.
Not interested in a sequel, though. It's much better as a one-off.

Hangovers are one thing, but another case of accidental time traveling ... not sure about this.

I went to an early screening of the first movie and I laughed my ass off. I hadn't laughed that hard at a movie in a while. It just works.
This sounds like a terrible idea. The last one ended on a perfect note.

No Cusack, no sale. I LOVED the first one. WAY better than any of the Hangover films. This is the film from that period of time that should have got the attention Hangover did. Same dynamic really. 4 old friends coming together, and chaos ensues. But yeah like I said, for me, no Cusack is a dealbreaker.

So how are they going to explain the need to go back in time after everyone's life is perfect now? Let me guess: "Something has to be done about [Craig Robinson's] children."

But that's one of the things that made the first one so fun, that Cusack went back to the 80s - a decade we grew up watching Cusack in. The filmmakers should get someone like Patrick Dempsey for part 2 (assuming they go to the 80s again).

I thought the original was fun but had the potential to be so much more. It's been a few years so I don't remember the details, but I just remember the movie feeling like it had gone through quite a few re-writes/passes in the editing bay by the time it was released. Certain plot threads seemed to be dropped at random and the storyline focus was constantly changing in a way that made it seem like originally the movie was supposed to be about 'x' but somewhere along the way they decided 'y' was a better direction. Very Caddyshack in that regard.
As far as John Cusack is concerned, he will be missed, but I never got the impression that he was enjoying himself very much in the first movie. It doesn't surprise me that he's not coming back.

Can we get a hot tub time machine, go back to the end of last decade, and have Adam Scott take over the John Cusack role in the original film when Anders and Morris were still attached to direct the picture causing Cusack not to signing on to the role which caused Anders and Morris to get fired so his butt buddy (Pink) got the directing job instead?
John Cusack is a cocksucker. I'm glad he's not getting work anymore.
