Talk about trying to cash in. Some of the ideas these studios come up with to extend a franchise can be so ridiculous.

I think I remember rumors of this book being adapted for Die Hard. It was a fun book and very much in the vein of Die Hard.

Not sure how silly it would come across on screen though.

I've posted this before, but it amuses me enough that I'll put it up again:

This left Speed 2 in need of a script, so they used what was originally supposed to be the script for the third Die Hard movie, about a boat being hijacked. This obviously left Die Hard 3 in need of a script, so they gave Bruce Willis a sassy black partner and used the script that was originally going to be the fourth Lethal Weapon movie. This obviously left Lethal Weapon 4 without a script, but apparently they went ahead and shot that movie without one.

It was a better representation of a Die Hard type story than the last Die Hard was.

To each his own, I suppose. I thought it was a blatant and terrible ripoff of Die Hard with a bit of 24 thrown in. The endless jingoism was annoying and could've been offensive if they movie hadn't been so stupid. Even as an action film, I thought almost all of the set pieces were weak and cliched and gave no sense of geography, space, suspense, or excitement. I rewatched Die Hard with some friends recently, and I'd forgotten just how good a film it really was. McTiernan actually modulates the suspense superbly, the action sequences still pack a punch, the humor is funny, the villains are great, and the characterization surprisingly strong. None of which I could even come close to saying about Olympus Has Fallen.

There was talk of adapting this to John McClane back in the day...I know the shuttle isn't running anymore, but this was a good thriller.
http://www.amazon.com/Ignition-Kevin.../dp/1469244314

The launch of the space shuttle Atlantis will make history. Another triumph for the space program, and a political coup: a Russian cosmonaut is scheduled to perform the first spacewalk from an American unit. The checkout fail-safes are all go. The mission is proceeding like clockwork. The team of American and Russian astronauts are strapped in, the mission specialists in Houston see no hitches. No one knows the real danger. . . For as millions of viewers tune in to watch the countdown, there's nothing to indicate that what they're seeing is a prerecorded show. Terrorists have take over Launch Control at Cape Canaveral and are threatening to blow up the Atlantis in less than three hours unless their demands are met. Only Colonel "Iceberg" Friese, the mission's former commander, out with a broken foot, knows about the danger to his crew. Unknown to anyone, he's sneaked into the restricted zone. And now it's up to him to stop the clock before the countdown reaches. . . Ignition.

I'm sorry, but that article is longer then a small paragraph. The storyline of the last movie was shorter than this interview.

I agree completely. It was dreadful. Yet there are posters here who gave Olympus Has Fallen 5 stars.

Yes...5 stars.

But, you're talking to a guy who hates every blockbuster and big budget action movie though. Everything is too dumb for his sophisticated tastes.

Hey DJariya, I certainly don't mean to come across as a pompous ass (which I'm sure I do at times).

There are a ton of action films I love.

Granted, I'm not a fan of a lot of the modern big budget action films. I find a lot of them tedious and uninteresting. If you enjoy them, more power to you.
I realize I'm in the minority.

I just find some other genres more engaging.
Trust me, I like my share of movies of questionable quality (some are downright crap ).

Peace, dude.

'Die HARDEST' ?? - sounds like something the South Park guys would parody the sixth film with.

Lacey Schwimmer would make for a smoking hot Joan McClane.
