Saw it yesterday with my boy and we both liked it quite a lot. I'd say at least as good as the first one (I do also think the 2nd is rather underrated, except for the letdown of an ending and the bizarre "Tony's dad hides a scientific breakthrough in a dusty map" plot) and more "epic" in scale than the first two.
Anyway, without spoiling too much this one is great fun. I honestly think Downey might be the hardest actor to "replace" in a role since Christopher Reeve if he ever does give it up, because he so owns Tony Stark. Lots of action but Shane Black also has a knack for the character beats and great one-liners (the script in this one definitely shows his "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" mojo). This one nicely takes Stark back to the basics for a good spell of the running time and shows off his scientific ingenuity very well. Guy Pearce is one of my faves and quite awesome and Ben Kingsley is excellent and surprisingly funny. Even Paltrow, who might just be the most annoying celebrity out there, is quite likeable. There are some big changes from the comics (the Ellis "Extremis" story is very loosely adapted) and there's one twist that a lot of comics fans might hate but I actually found rather clever. I'd at least give it an A- I think and look forward to the inevitable bluray. Be interesting to see what the rest of the world thinks in a week or so....

Saw it last night. Much better than second and probably on par with the first.
A few dumb things but I was never bored. Though I don't feel the Iron Man movies have replay value.

I have my tickets reserved for the Sunday 4pm showing at the Boca Premiere, and I can't wait (big Shane Black fan, love superhero movies, have loved every Marvel movie except IM2 and the Earth-bound parts of Thor), but zowie, I just got this quick review from a buddy who's seen IM3 (she LOVES Marvel movies, and comic book movies in general):
"Watched Iron Man 3 last night…such a completely useless movie. The movie itself wasn’t bad but it didn’t need to be made."
Hoping that's not the case

My only issue with the "doesn't need to be made" comment is that that was EXACTLY how I felt about IM2. It was decent, competent, entertaining, but it was also pointless. It didn't throw anything new into the mix (other than introducing War Machine), the jokes were belabored and stale, and it spent its entire middle act floundering aimlessly for a long while. But it brought the oomphs, the action, the hoo-hah spectacle, etc. 20 minutes after watching it, I had forgotten completely about it. It's the only Marvel movie I haven't rewatched since seeing it in theaters.
I'm really hoping IM3 isn't the same way. I hope it takes a good leap forward.

My problem with IM2 was the same I had with Thor. It wasn't a standalone movie as much as an extended prologue for Avengers. They work well in the big picture, but not as much as standalone movies.

Planning on seeing this tonight. Need to decide whether to see the 3D or not. For those who've seen it, is it worth seeing in 3D?
I'm leaning towards "no" at the moment.
