American Psycho was a triple stumper on Jeopardy yesterday. The question asked for a Brett Easton Ellis novel with an "unreliable narrator". The first woman rang in with "What is Psycho", the second woman rang in with "What is Werewolf" (?!) and the third guy didn't ring in at all.

American Psycho because it took me repeated viewings to "get it." I thought it was originally a suspense thriller and when he never got caught I was like, "that's it??" Such a boring film I thought, with no pay off. Then I watched it a few more times and noticed the very subtle comedic elements along with it's commentary on materialism, mental imbalance, individuality, etc.
American Beauty was an entertaining film but I felt like I was getting hit over the head with the message. I wasn't a big fan of most of the actors either: Mena Suvari, Kevin Spacey, or the daughter. The mom was okay if a little too exaggerated. It was kind of weird because it felt at times like it was supposed to be serious, then it would feel like a anachronistic caricature of 50s/60s suburbia life taking place in the late 90s. It was good, just felt a little too preachy.
American Pie was pretty funny when I first saw it. But I have no interest in watching it again.
