Any film project with the name "Michael Bay" attached, whether as director or producer. I cannot stomach the man and his bottomless arrogance and ego, or his work. I know, it's an old argument... a huge "been there, done that" sentiment, but you asked!

^Really? I'm surprised the skeletal Berkeley tickles any part of you.
I have yet to see a Bunuel film that satisfies me in any way. I have tried "Discreet..." several times, and always bow out early (something I almost never do, as I have vast reservoirs of patience when it comes to film, especially foreign films).

Well, I should probably try him again just to make sure. Maybe the ones you cited or Los Olvidados, which subject sounds very good. It's just that I have a couple of thousand other movies lined up to watch.
On paper, Discreet Charm... sounds exactly like my kind of film, but it just doesn't work for me. Granted, the last time I gave it a whirl was several years ago, but my tastes have not changed much since I entered adulthood 20 years ago. I have never been able to sit through Aguirre in its entirety. Those two are among very few films I have ever walked away from, and both are regarded as masterpieces.

I thought that Discreet Charm was one of the funniest movies I'd ever seen. I also think that it's the most accessible of his surreal movies. If it doesn't work for you, you should probably watch Un Chein Andalou (to join the common experience) and then give up on Bunuel.
We saw Aguirre for the first time in July, and we were riveted to our seats. I was thinking about it again only a couple of days ago. It just seems weird that a thoughtful person would watch movies that I loved, give them a chance, and still not like them. How can you possibly not like what I like?

As to Aguirre, again, the wide acclaim leaves me flummoxed. I have started it at least three times, to no avail. I find it just utterly mind-numbing and onerous. But I should point out that, apart from some of his documentaries and The Mystery of Kasper Hauser, I am no fan of Herzog's. Heart of Glass was also one of the most stultifying slogs I have had as a film-viewer, but I think I finished that one (not sure; it was many years ago).

I've only seen 2 Bunuel films, Viridiana and The Phantom of Liberty. I thought Viridiana was a masterpiece. I loved it. Phantom of Liberty I didn't care to much for. A little to dry for me. Sometimes slightly amusing, but never all that engaging or interesting. I'm still down to check out the rest of his filmography.
Aguirre: The Wrath of God is probably on my top ten alltime list. Furthermore I think Werner Herzog is the greatest filmmaker on the planet.
