Dracula Untold (2014, D: Gary Shore) S: Luke Evans

This has been greenlit by the studio and they have cast Luke Evans to play the title role. This was previously being developed as "Dracula Year Zero" with Sam Worthington attached, but they have moved on with Evans and thankfully dropped 'Year Zero'.

The script is from Matt Sazama and Burke Sharpless and will be directed by Gary Shore. Production is planned to begin this year. Here's the synopsis:

The script tells of a young prince who, when the lives of his wife and child are put in danger by a bloodthirsty sultan, risks his soul to save them, and in the process becomes the first vampire.

Re: Universal Developing New 'Dracula' Origin Story

Cool... i guess. So they were sitting around watching the prologue of Coppola's Dracula and said:
"Dudes, we need to make this thing into a whole movie."

Should I be worried that I've never heard of any of the people attached to this? Probably.

Luke Evans' resume is growing. He'll be playing Bard the Bowman in the next 2 Hobbit films, and is the villain in Fast and Furious 6.

Re: Universal Developing New 'Dracula' Origin Story

Soooo, over the years. Dracula and Vampires in general have gone from being creatures created by Religious sins and or demonic happenstance to victims of natural Biological/Genetic occurrences.

This sounds like we've come full circle back to Religious sins and demonic happenstance since they mention "risking his soul" in the description.

Sounds like it is going to suck.

Just kidding, if it is done right, I am sure my wife and I would like to see it.

Sounds much cooler than the English translation "Fangs of the Vampire".

Re: Universal Developing New 'Dracula' Origin Story

I'd like to see a theatrical re-release of ˇVampiros en La Habana!

Although I guess the best I can hope for is an Americanized remake called Vampires In Miami or, worse case scenario, Vampire Movie.

EDIT: Wasn't aware that there was a sequel released 10 years ago called Más ˇVampiros En La Habana!

I wonder if it's as funny as the first one.

Ahh, the coveted second weekend in August spot! This must be a tentpole release for Universal.

At least they'll be able to get it to home video for Halloween.

Actually it sounds like Muslim terrorists are to blame
the lives of his wife and child are put in danger by a bloodthirsty sultan
