Jurassic Park 3d 4/5/13

This seems to be flying under the radar. Anyone going to see it Friday night? Any insights about the 3d conversion quality? I'm taking my kids. I could probably do without the 3d, but can't pass up the opportunity to let my kids see the flick on a (really) big screen.

Found a positive advance review: http://www.theatlanticwire.com/enter...ture-3d/63596/

I'm not sure how I'd feel about the movie were I seeing it for the first time, but as a return, a chance once again to see the movie as big as it was meant to be seen, the 3D struck me as novel, exciting, and only occasionally out of place.

In flat dialogue scenes the characters can appear to hover in the foreground, as if they're in their own versions of the John Hammond-talks-to-John Hammond bit. But during the bigger set pieces, when motion is constant and the pictures loom loud and large, it's a visceral thrill. There's no corny "It's coming right at you!!" stuff, it's all just somehow more present, placed just shy of your lap. I'd strongly advise, if you want to spend 16 or however many dollars on a twenty-year-old movie, that you see it in IMAX. That ridiculous, only occasionally vertigo-inducing scale is likely to provide maximum enjoyment. Oh and the sound! The sound. Though less heralded than its visual counterpart, movie sound technology has improved so much in the past two decades that I was truly shaken and, yes I'll admit as a just-south-of-30-year old, scared every time that T-Rex bellowed out his enormous roar.

On the off chance I can find a 2-D print, I'm going to hit this up, since I was a kid and couldn't have seen it back when it came out. I'm not paying for anything converted to 3-D, I just have no interest.

Looking forward to seeing this in the theater again. Could do without the 3-D, though.

I saw it last saturday, the 3D was good, the movie is still a blast to watch. It's great seeing all the old computers and hearing the characters talk about them like it was state of the art.

How come I never noticed that the lawyer asks if the scientist working in the lab are auto-erotic?

I'm in. Taking my 8 year old daughter. I could do without the 3D but if that's my only option, it'll do. I want her to experience it on the big screen.

I'm bummed she'll miss out on the feeling of seeing "real" dinosaurs on screen for the first time. Should still be fun though.

I am interested in going, I remembered being in a packed theater 20 years ago, and I saw it four times that summer. But I am concerned about another bad 3d Conversion. I have been to two okay at best 3d converted movies(Top Gun and the new GI Joe) in a row, I hope there is a 2d print playing alongside this release.

Hell yeah I'll be seeing this.

This is a Spielberg film that got converted to 3D. I think that'll probably mean the conversion is top notch.

I can't even remember the reason, but I never managed to see this on the big screen when it was released in 1993, so I'll plan to see the 3D version. The 3D BD edition will be out on 4/23.

I saw a work print of this 20 years ago. None of the 3D was finished but it was fantastic. I don't want to give anything away but I have two words: T-Rex Attack! And there's a total set up for a sequel and it's so obvious that there's no way thr next two movies in the franchise will ignore it.

I saw this in 6th grade, sitting down front on the floor of the theater because it was so packed. It blew me the fuck away.

3D I can take or leave, but I'll absolutely be seeing this in theaters again.

I've seen the trailers for it but have they changed the color timing on it? It looks different. Specifically the bits they had of the kitchen scene.

I bought the Jurassic Park BD, which came with movie money to see the 3D release in theaters. So yes, I will be going.

StereoD did the 3D post-conversion work. They also did post-conversion work on Avatar, Titanic, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and all of the Marvel films.

The four-minutes I've seen in IMAX 3D of the infamous T-Rex sequence is fucking amazing and has been, by far, some of the best 3D I've seen. Period. Films actually shot in 3D haven't looked that good.

The Titanic post conversion I saw was fantastic and totally changed my opinion on 3D. Hearing the same company did this post conversion has me a bit more interested in this release.

The teaser trailer didn't make it to the Blu's, did it?

So much for keeping my expectations in check . . . Hype drive engaged.

I liked Jurassic Park a lot better when it was only 10 years old. 20 now? What happened to my youth?

I saw this last night. It was fun seeing it on the big screen again and I had a good time.

3D looks weird to me and makes everything look a little wonky. I've seen very few things in 3D so I can't comment on how good the conversion was.

I'll spoiler this just in case:

Spoiler:
I swore I remembered more people getting eaten by dinosaurs. Only four characters bite the dust. I was a little disappointed by that.

Never thought about that. Been awhile, but:
Spoiler:

Guy in the intro
Muldoon
Nedry
Generro

Right?

I have the 35mm trailer of this from when I was a projectionist back in the day. We soon got a notice right after from Universal asking to pull it and throw it away. One of my proud rarities along with the original Eaters of the Dead, the teaser of 1492 with the Enigma music, and the second reel of The Program where the kids lie down in the middle of the highway.

For this 3D, I may pick it up on blu when it's cheap.

Saw the 3-D version last night in a preview. Loved the 3-D. It really opens up some of the epic scenes. No added scenes I can think of. I never saw the movie in the theater and I had a blast!
