If you replace the solid-state models of Harryhausen movies with digital ones, there really isn't a lot to differentiate them from Jurassic Park or Cloverfield. I love my some giant monster movies, but it's a genre which has undergone little to no evolution in 75 years.

I know. Say what you will about something like Star Wars being a phenomenon for a kid. But it has nothing like power of that scene. Spielberg made dinosaurs real. Like that made my mind explode as a kid. I was like 6. Totally was into dinosaurs. I remember crying out of joy cuz I was seeing a real dinosaur.
And especially the way that scene is crafted together is so well. It's not a beat of action or surprise but one of bubbling awe.

Just bought my IMAX tickets for Thurs. 5/15 @ 7pm. Kinda weird how some theaters can do such early showings. Whatever, I ain't complaining.

Just bought my IMAX tickets. Reserved seating and everything. Awesome! May 18th!
i promised my cousin (who is autistic) that if the movie came out again, i would take him to see it in style. He loves godzilla and has drawn it so many times...

For some reason I expected Cranston to get top billing. At least he got the coveted "and" credit.

I overheard some geeks in a comic book store recently talking about how every time a building is destroyed in one of these films, there are people who die, people who have stories, etc. I have a response if someone was ever to comment like that directly to me and it would be: "No, there ARE no people in those buildings being destroyed. They're special effects--miniatures (or CGI) with no characters in them. If the filmmakers were to put identifiable characters IN those buildings and GIVE them backstories, then--and only then--would your statement be true. Those buildings are merely symbolic representations of buildings that would hypothetically be knocked down if a giant dinosaur were to rampage among them."

I just wonder when so many film viewers became such pussies on this topic...
