Abraham Lincoln vs Zombies (2012) - produced by The Asylum

As Abraham Lincoln labors over the Gettysburg address, the importance of which he is fully aware, he learns that a menace from his past has returned, threatening to tear the already fractured nation to pieces. He must journey behind enemy lines to face an foe far more fearsome than the Confederate army: the walking dead
Since this was made by The Asylum, king of the mockbusters, you'd expect a full serving of cheese. Surprisingly, there is almost no camp here, it's played pretty much straight. And with a coherent plot to boot.

For a 15 day, $150k shoot, this is not a bad movie. Bill Oberst Jr., who has been in a lot of things you've never heard of, did a decent job as the dour Lincoln. And he swings a sweet scythe that snaps open like a switchblade.

The rest of the cast give performances that range from terrible all the way down to wtf. The dialogue is era-appropriate, as are the costumes. Some of the beards and mustaches seem to be applied with chewing gum. They appeared to be shooting in actual civil war period buildings, which added to the mood.

There are a few cool surprises here with a couple of famous names from history. A lot of beheadings and gunshots, obviously, but the budget doesn't really cover gore. The ending has a little twist that fits well with the movie, and real history too.

Now for the most important part...the zombies. They are the shambling kind, and are referred to as zombies. They're not very menacing and easily confused, but still dangerous in a swarm. They also sleep standing up, so you can tiptoe around them.

A decent effort into the zombie pantheon, and miles better than the middling AL vs Vampires.
