Re: Favorite comfort movie?
Attenborough's 'Gandhi' is the first one to come to mind, not sure it's the one and only favorite, I have a hard time picking one 'best' with things and there are quite a few movies I can watch most any time. But any time TCM is playing 'Gandhi', which they do fairly often, I'll watch. I can put in a disc any time and watch it.

Road House. One of those movies I can watch and enjoy every time if it's on when I happen to be flipping through channels in the middle of the night.

^ Good one. There was a couple years there where I'd go back and forth between Wonder Boys and Almost Famous as my two biggest comfort movies.

I will watch until the end Real Genius, The Big Lebowski, Flash Gordon, and Erin Brockovich if I find them at any point while flipping through channels.

If I feel cruddy, I watch this movie and it cheers me up. Most of my other favorites (things like Brazil, Blue Velvet, etc) don't work well for that.

Re: Favorite comfort movie?
Gone Baby Gone...not sure why, but whenever I want to watch something, but am not in the mood for a specific type of film, this one always gets pulled off the shelf.
