Searching for Sugar Man (2012, D: Malik Bendjelloul)
"Two South Africans set out to discover what happened to their unlikely musical hero, the mysterious 1970s rock 'n' roller, Rodriguez."
I watched this documentary tonight, and recommend everyone else to check it out.
It's a great story and definitely worth your time.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I certainly recommend checking out the two CD reissues for Rodriguez, put out by Light In The Attic Records.

I watched this on Starz and I liked it. I hope this story was real and not scripted or staged .
Rodriguez is pretty humble.
This was a positive movie compared to Last Days Here.

Rented this movie because I like music documentaries but really didn’t know anything about it. I thought it was interesting, and I liked the music. I had no idea who Rodriguez was and had to keep reminding myself that it wasn’t a mockumentary.
The making-of is interviewing and talking about the director, and how he got depressed trying to finish the film.

Funny that this should be bumped only days after my nephew mentioned this film at a family gathering on Sunday. He wondered if there were any other examples of a pop culture phenomenon being discovered and celebrated by another country and not the country of origin. The prime example I could think of was A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS becoming a hit in Europe and Eastwood hearing about it but not being aware it was the film he made (under a different title) until it got reviewed in Variety and they mentioned his name a couple of years after he'd made it. Anything else like that?
