Yeah, this. The movie is gorgeous in so many ways, but they fell for the ol' Hollywood claptrap about Dracula and Mina being in love. That nonsense was not in the novel.
The novel is written as a series of letters, newspaper clippings, and diary/journal entries by the characters of the story. Coppola worked his way around that by showing Mina tearing out the pages of her diary dealing with her affair with Dracula and throwing them in the river (so they don't make it into the novel). Whatever, blah.
The book is a fabulous horror story about a group of young modern yuppies (think "Friends" circa 1890 London) dealing with an old monster from the "uncivilized" still-in-touch-with-the-baser-animal-parts-of-human-nature Eastern Europe. Yes, there is repressed sexuality that the vampire attacks bring out in the victim. But Mina doesn't friggin' date Dracula in the novel. That's a modern take on her character that makes no sense for the time and place and who she was.

FWIW, the 1989 Batman doesn't suck, but it's nowhere near the center of the universe I thought it was when I was 12 going on 13 during it's summer. Two years later it became T-2 in that position. Your favorite movie of all time changes often when you're an adolescent.

^ yet T2 still holds up amazingly well compared to Burton's Batman.

I'm kind of torn on Bram Stoker's Dracula from 1992. It is a true visual treat, and a rather faithful adaptation. However, the abundance of Gen-X actors make it seem like a huge college stage production with Anthony Hopkins as the special professional actor guest star. Also, Keanu Reeves was just bad when I first saw it, but now his performance seems god-awful.

Gotta disagree, IMO this is Tony Scott's best film.

Guess what.... Goldeneye is still better than each of the Craig Bonds.

Boys N the Hood. Used to think it was such a serious depiction of gang life but watching it now its like some cheesy PSA with bad acting.

Obviously someone didn't get the memo. It's 'cool' to hate it now. Just like Forrest Gump.
My answer to the original question is The Goonies. It was such a cool adventure when I was little, but I watched it recently and it's boring, sluggish, and unrewarding.

I thought the movie Willow was pretty good when I saw it in the theater. However, when I got it on video a few months later I was amazed at not only how slow it was, but just how ham-fisted the acting seems. Definitely one of the signs that George Lucas was more about effects over story.

I won't go so far as saying it sucks, but Inception gets worse each time I see it.
I somehow never saw The Goonies as a kid, but hated it as an adult. I don't see how any adult can see it now, for the first time, and enjoy it at all.
I loved American Beauty but always hated Forest Gump.

It's funny how you love certain movies as a kid, and then see them years later when you're older and wonder what all the fuss was about.
-Strange Brew first comes to mind. I loved this movie as a kid, and didn't see it for about 15 years. I bought it on DVD, and it just wasn't as funny as I thought after all these years. Don't get me wrong, the MacKenzie brothers are great characters, but I think I built this movie bigger in my mind when I was a kid.
-Return of the Jedi: I loved this more then Empire and Star Wars as a kid. Now when it is on TV as an adult, I can clearly see that this is doesn't even come close in terms of quality to Empire or Star Wars.

That's pretty much how I was as a kid as well. Jedi had everything work out and good conquering all, not to mention the little Ewoks. Not to mention so many new toys! How could a kid not like that?
I still like Jedi overall, but it is now painfully obvious how it conveniently wrapped up anything interesting with a bow. Just not up to par.

Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey
I loved it when it first came out (I was 13). But, as the decades roll on, the first one gets better with age and the second one seems more to appeal to an adolescent mindset.

The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra
The first time I watched it I laughed myself silly, my belly was literally aching from laughing so much.
The second time, I popped it in for a friend to see and I was embarrassed at how flat everything fell, we didn't even finish it.
Maybe I need to revisit again, solo, you know with some tasty beverages...

Same here...the difference between the 2 is that there was initially dislike of FG with certain people (myself included) right from the beginning, where as AB has developed it's dislike slowly over the years. I definitely don't remember much criticism of AB when it first came out, unlike FG.
