http://i49.tinypic.com/5xr4sx.jpg Home video changed the world. The cultural and historical impact of the VHS tape was enormous. This film traces the ripples of that impact by examining the myriad aspects of society that were altered by the creation of videotape. |

this ought to make a great double feature with So Wrong They're Right a documentary tribute to the 8 track tape!

Re: REWIND THIS! (2013) (dir. Josh Johnson) (documentary on VHS culture)
Funny that this thread popped up today right after I did some research this morning to identify the most recently released VHS pre-records I have in my collection. The two I determined are both 2004 releases, one a Japanese animated film released here in an English dub, and one a Japanese-only release:

HURRICANGER (featuring the characters that would appear in Power Rangers Dino Thunder and Power Rangers Ninja Storm). I still watch tons of VHS tapes, both pre-records and things I've taped off cable. |

Bought this on Vudu. I thought it was excellent.

I see this is available to stream on Amazon so I'll probably check it out at some point.

Ironic that this is available on VOD but not on physical media. This should have gotten a limited-edition VHS release!

Does this cover the organized tape-swapping and bootleg distribution that the anime and SF scenes were famous for?

I've got some free Vudu credits so I'll 'rent' it there, but I refuse to buy movies that way. A hi-def D-VHS release would've been REALLY cool for this, but at least give me a Blu-Ray.

Just got this yesterday from Amazon and gave it a watch. I enjoyed it and thought it was pretty well done. Being pretty embedded in that world there wasn't really anything new to me, but it was a nice overview. I enjoyed a lot of the clips/footage as well. I think there were probably three or four areas that could have been whole documentaries on their own, but it was enjoyable. I'd recommend it.
