absolutely loved this movie when I was a kid. Space herpes, Bruce Vilanch, a disturbing castration factory scene, Ron Perlman, robots, John Carradine, swashbuckling, John Matuszak ... what's not too love? |

Re: The Official "Ice Pirates" Appreciation Thread
I remember going to see this at the theater when I was 4 or 5. A lot of stuff in it freaked me out (like the granny skeleton at the end) and I had to get up and leave the theater. My mother had wanted to take the kid's to see Pete's Dragon but my dad over ruled. For years my mom would deride his choice in movies, always referring back to this the prime example of idiocy.
When it came out on video this became one of the movies me and my siblings would rent over and over. It took a long time before I realized the movie was trying to be funny. http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/9985/19840316.jpg |
Re: The Official "Ice Pirates" Appreciation Thread
I remember seeing this in the theater when it came out. I was in high school at the time and snuck a bottle of whiskey in. I found it funny as hell on that day. I have not seen this since taping it off of HBO or something like that 25+ years ago. I am afraid it will not hold up to my fond memories of it.

Re: The Official "Ice Pirates" Appreciation Thread
I watched this a few times as a kid in the mid-80s. It used to be on TV pretty frequently. I remember there was a space ship that had a bunch of sheep and goats running around on it for no explicable reason.

I loved it as a kid, I'm sure I'd be less fond of it if I watched it today. I remember a double feature with this and "Time Bandits".

Re: The Official "Ice Pirates" Appreciation Thread
I LOVED this movie when I was a kid. I saw it about 10 years ago again and it hasn't held up too well, but the black robot, the headless guy and a few other moments make it pretty enjoyable.

Re: The Official "Ice Pirates" Appreciation Thread
Saw it in theaters and then watched it over and over again on video. I think it's partly why I was also such a big "Spenser for Hire" fan growing up.
